Major Disappointment.

I was really looking forward to this film and having just seen it I'm annoyed as to how bad it is.
Badly written , lazy and completely humourless.
Shame cos the premise was a good one just that the execution was not.
4 out of 10 at best.

It was indeed disappointing. I was hoping for something like Four Lions, which anyone with any experience of the culture involved could recognize as authentic.

The Infidel really seems to have been written by people whose knowledge of Muslim and Jewish culture came from Hollywood movies. I don't see how anyone close to the subject could find any of this remotely funny.

Well written, sensitively acted and I have to say laugh out loud funny. 10 out of 10.

Wow, your standards are low!

I really wanted to enjoy this movie, but it was just too ridiculous. I would have even let all the factual and cultural inaccuracies slide if the movie were funnier and more intelligent, but it just wasn't.

I'm surprised byt these comments. When I saw this movie at the Tribeca Film Festival I have never heard so much laughter in the theater before. It was at times hilarious!

And saying the the film makers know about the cultures from Hollywood just shows you know nothing about it. As the film makers where there doing a Q&A after I can tell you it's the opposite.

First of all they are British who seem like they couldn't care less about Hollywood as they have their background in the British stand up comedy scene. And also, the script writer had personal experience from a mixed background including both Islam and Judaism.

I agree 100%. I was really looking forward to this film whether it was a comedy of drama. I thought the premise was great and could have been done so much better. It was awful, insulting and just plain stupid. Moreover, it was not funny. A "4" would be generous. I give it a "2-3"

reply

What I didn't like about the film was that it presented Muslims as if they are bi-polar. Only extremes, nothing in between.

Your comment reminds me of a classic line from Jack Nicholson : "You can't handle the truth".

reply

I think you have to know a little about religions and accept that it is deliberately confrontational. It is really quite funny, provided you don't let it upset you. And it does make some valid points.

reply

It had its funny moments. Although I'm not a Muslim I did find that the Muslims in this movie were portrayed as very stereotypical. I think for the cleric it was alright since he was supposed to be an extremist anyway, but for everybody else, way too stereotypical. The portrayal of the Jews didn't bother me so much.

reply

I'm not sure a Muslim head of the family who listens to rock music, swears constantly and has little time for observing religious rituals, is that much of a stereotype...
