Enjoyable film, terrible ending (spoilers)

Unfortunate that it came out around the same time as four lions, comparisons are inevitable, and Four Lions is just way better.

But yeah, what the hell was that ending about? I just didn't find it realistic... a controversial fundie cleric would be under so much scrutiny that he wouldn't be able to hide the fact he was a popstar... there'd be so many people seeking to undermine him that it would eventually come out. Fair play to the actor who played al-masri though, because they are very very different

I didn't like the ending either...However, as I continued to think about it, I suppose it could have been more like a commentary that all these extremists are nothing more than pop-stars....

WOW how old are you, 12? It's called satire! You probably missed the subtle mention of "Cat Stephens aka Yusuf Islam" on the radio at the beginning of the film, conversely, Al-Masri and his past life are clearly a reference to Anjem Choudary or others like him.

Understandable that its satire, but the problem with the ending is that the film up until then lives in "reality" in the sense it doesn't go overboard and the ending becomes "unrealistic." The ending is funny, but it doesn't seem to fit the tone of the rest of the film.

Hmm...Was dear old Jimi on another of his LSD fuelled rants when he said this?

The ending was telegraphed but I bought it on a satirical level. After all he claimed his ancestry back hundreds of years back to the early Islamic scholars and it was unquestioned by everyone.

Yeah… absurdity is fine as a jumping-off point, but the film just kept getting sillier as it went along - which is a shame really, as the initial premise allows scope for comedy that is much more topical, relevant and hard-hitting… There's a good opening 20 minutes or so, but that's about it.

I liked the ending. It showed that the muslim extremist was a hypocrite.

It's something like "Four Lions Lite" - a safer, nicer, considerably watered down version of Chris Morris's film, almost entirely lacking the outrageousness and uncomfortable edginess that permeats its cinematic blood relative. And even though it does have its share of effective jokes, there're also too many of ones that're kind of obvious and the thing in general constantly threatens to veer into easy slapstick. And then there's this contrived, all too pat ending that facilitates everyone to sort of live happily ever after. Everybody gets along, comradery conquers plenty, extremists are playfully dismantled and ridiculed. No problemo there.

"comparisons are inevitable"

unless one is dumb as a stick, they are evitable.

"and Four Lions is just way better. "

for lions is completely DIFFERENT. Four lions is a SATIRE and it involves islamic terrorists. Infidel is a comedy that deals with misconception and (mis-)understanding between groups of different religions and also how a group deals with extremists within their own realms.
