Question about the ending....SPOILERS

When Barney sits on the dock looking out at the lake we are shown a scene about what happened to his friend.

He chases Boogie with the gun down the dock but Boogie falls into the lake and is scooped up by the plane and dropped into the mountain with injuries consistent of a "skydiving" accident.

Okay so we know that Barney didn't kill Boogie but he still chased him with a loaded gun.
Boogie wouldn't have been on the dock if it hadn't been for Barney chasing him with the gun.
Also wouldn't wild animals have found his body and eaten it? I know it sounds horrible but it was the countryside.

Also Barney was in the final stages of dementia and is only NOW able to remember what happened to his friend? Why didn't he say something before?
He can remember what happened but lacks the ability to communicate it to anyone?

Im no expert but doesnt skydiving require a certain gear? How do they conclude it was a skydiving accident when Boogie was not wearing anything remotely related to skydiving? No remnants of a parachute anywhere, a helmet? A piece of the harness???
