Michael Haneke influence

I love Michael Haneke, and I see a lot of him in this film. I've heard of Brillante Mendoza (i'm Filipino) but i never got around to seeing his films. With his upcoming film starring Isabelle Huppert, I'm thinking that he really does have a lot of influence from Haneke. Anyone else notice this? If so, are his other films similiar, do they also have Haneke influence?

I don't know what directors influenced Brillante Mendoza, but I didn't see any Haneke influences in the two Mendoza films I've seen so far (Kinatay and Lola).

I was strongly reminded of Hector Babenco (Pixote), and a bit of Cidade De Deus.

City slums and slummy police corruption, with a bit of horror on the margins, but no "tricks" à la Haneke.

I didn't see Haneke in this, more like Taxi Driver, in the street depiction.
