Worth the Watch

Another one of those films on Amz Prime (where I streamed it from) that popped up on my suggestions. Not many scares in this one, but definitely a creepy Lovecraftian vibe through that would have been much better if the plot was more coherent and the investigators... I mean actors, where NOT so damn attractive.

What I mean by that, I don't think we ever get a decent idea of what the mad scientist was trying to accomplish, and the point of his machine really was. The three leads, the lady a the police station, the mad scientist ( to some degree) and definitely his wife were all like super models and looked and felt WAY out of place for what was supposed to be some backwoods town. Typical filmmaking 101 mistake, in casting "beautiful" people, when the horror atmosphere and ambience in this film would have been better served by casting "common folk" and making everything on the screen feel more real.

The special effects (mostly practical?) were all pretty good. The house was creepy. You have to suspend your disbelief for what is depicted as "police" procedure here. But if you're someone who has ever played any horror RPGs or read any HP. Lovecraft, and loved it all, you will probably enjoy this film like I did, even with all its faults. I complain about the actors looks taking me out of the story a bit, but they were talented and believable even though they felt out of place (if that makes sense).

If I was the directory I would have ditched the love triangle between the three main characters as it was not necessary to the plot other than to setup a really weird and forced sex scene in the creepy house. By forced, I mean, now way in hell anyone is having sex in that house after everything they have seen. A stronger choice would have been if the three main characters were just co-workers.
