Are they stupid?

The group that barged in on the other group uninvited were really stupid. They ran out of water and had nothing to drink for almost two days. They were surrounded by snow....couldn't they put some in whatever they carried water in and melt it? Also, they barged in on people who had barely enough food for themselves, much less their guests. They should have been sent back to their camp.
