No, I don't think they cheated. Their families were waiting for them when the train arrived at the depot. So obviously this was the plan.

Didn't like the train deal but the rest was ok. I'm a big fan of the 1st season but tghe 2nd season was just a little to game showy to me! Hopefully if there a 3rd season they bring back both casts and mixed it!

Speaking of the first season, do you know if it's been released on DVD?

(*edit*, I see now it's currently airing on the Discovery channel, I missed the ep that aired early this morning but there are 2 more).

Yes the fisrt season has been airing for 3-4 weeks now at 2:00am and I've been enjoying it! I dunno about DVD for the 1st season but I'll see what I can find.

Some will say they did not cheat because their family was standing there at the end.. The thing is is that they had 14 more miles to go before the next cabin..i think while they waited for a train (and everyone knew they were serious) the producers moved their family from the cabin top of the mountain to that next town on the train track.... I highly doubt it was planned to go this way but i think it was handled correctly in the end so it appeared to be the ending they wanted.. I could be wrong but that's what i think.

I just saw this series. A very good one. If you have watched "RAILROAD ALASKA" that very same train and area (Talkeetna) are chronicled. The denizens of the area living in the wilderness use the FLAG SERVICE on that train line to get to Talkeetna for provisions. The train actually stops in the middle of the woods to pick locals up. Pretty nifty. So I'm sure the makers of this series figured that would be a nice way to end the show. Take the Alaskan Railroad to Talkeetna. I'm not sure the relatives would have wanted to wait around in a cabin for any length of time.

The goal was to return to civilization and that train takes you there. (Schedules for it are online).
