Why wasn't it as good as it should have been?

It started off pretty darn good but then it seemed to go downhill. Maybe it was the guys with the crappy guns who couldn't shoot worth a crap I don't know but it got a little silly. Started off well though and had some great scenes.

Prior to reaching the town, the movie was real silly:

1. When they got out of the freezing water as if they were getting out of a hot tub.
2. The guy looked like he broke his arm but it turned out to be his leg.
3. The girl stuck inside that hole for a week but seemed as if she had just been down there for an hour.

That and other stuff I could deal with. When they got into town, it no longer felt like "a lonely place to die". And I lost interest and the silliness became more pronounced: the pig mask, the wicker man festival, only two cops in a large town, the sniper rifle killing, etc.

After they got to the town the movie took a huge nosedive.

My sig: why do almost all movies on imdb have a "worst movie ever!" thread?

Ummm....
The movie's budget obviously went towards the first 1/4. Scenery was beautiful for a bit then the director took the awful turd script as if it was an actual sh!t out of his a$$ and smeared it all over his face. I normally defend low budget efforts but this was horrid, except for some nice cinematohraphy.

I thought the kidnappers being on a killing spree was not believable. That's usually the kind of criminal that wants to keep a low profile. Taking into account Mr. Kidd's history it would have made much more sense to just walk away after the girl escaped. Even when they tried to eliminate witnesses in the wilderness they would have worn masks. At the very least real kidnappers would have fled into anonymity as soon as the girl had reached civilization (they also would been careful from the getgo that the victim did not see their faces).

Overall, I would have found it much more enjoyable if the bad guys had remained faceless assassins that caused "accidents" in the wilderness like the cut rope until the mountaineers turned the tables by using stealth themselves. Oh well.
