The MOST RACIST new show on TV

The exchange of lines between Sherri & the bank teller "..a WHITE woman..." "Let's take him down."

If that had been two white women saying the same lines but saying "a BLACK woman" Al Sharpton would call for an end to the network, Jesse Jackson would demand an immediate end to the show, and Johnny Cochran would rise out of his grave to take on the case.

Double standards / reverse racism MUST BE STOPPED.

plus, the show is NOT FUNNY. Nothing original, all the script ideas have been OVERDONE BEFORE and they WERE NOT FUNNY THEN, either!

One line is all it takes for the truth to come out.

Case in point is your statement of "you people" - if it'd been said (either on a TV show or in public conversation) by a white person to a black, would be considered racist statement. Yet if said by a black to a white, would, by today's popular societal acceptances, not be. That's a double standard and also reverse racism. You also, by that statement, assume that I'm white. I am not. No, I am not assuming that you are black, just using your statement as it is applied in today's culture.

Terms like Rev. Hairperm & Babydaddy are stereotyping (read as the beginnings of RACISM).

Stop whining? What if the Northern states had stopped whining about abolishing slavery? Slavery, which by the way, was started by SPANIARDS (known today as LATINOS). Yes, that right - slavery was introduced and promoted in this country by SPANIARDS (Latinos), NOT the popular scapegoat of white European aristocracy.

I'll stop whining when ALL racism has stopped. To do otherwise is only allowing racism flourish.

reply

you are VERY correct and mention how africans started slavery in africa too. and in this country it seems okay for a black person to say derogatory comments about whites or others...but when a white person says you have sharpton going after ppl....like don imus.."knappy headed hoes" incident..double standards do exist. let the racism stop

If anyone needs to read a book, it's you. Africans did not start "slavery" in Africa. You sound so damn stupid.

It's nobody's business but ours.

reply

actually they did. coming from a history major: plenty of documentation of tribes enslaving other slaves and selling them to europeans and or killing them.

*smh*
you're a history major? and this is your conclusion?

and i'm sure the africans also shackled themselves - volunteered for a long term vacation to a place across the ocean shackled to each other like sardines - all while knowing there is a large chance that they would end up at the bottom of the ocean - then, after getting there, wanted to be stripped of their culture and declared sub human based on race - and have that racism so ingrained in their new culture that they would deal with it's effects for generations to come - all so they could have something to whine and make white people feel guilty about?

what is your point in even making a statement like that?

"WHO'S ON TOP & WHO'S ON BOTTOM NOW, huh?! WHO'S ON TOP & WHO'S ON BOTTOM NOW!"

LOL Spaniards are white Europeans.

All walls are great if the roof doesn't fall.

reply

African slavery was developed by the Portuguese and NOT the Spanish.

reply

Spain is in Europe and it is actually very mixed. The northern part is more light skinned because of the Germanic tribes that invaded and mulitpied. Spain is mow considered Latino because they spread there language and my other culteral aspects to us . There was no such thing as Latino back then. White people were the ones who had the slaves the longest. The southern part more dark skinned becasue of the Africans who were in habitants. WE really are all related if you think aobut it. I dont agree that it is the most racist show on tv because if you watch "Southlnd" the only Latinos are the bad guys, and the LA police dept is over 40% Latino. All the cops on the show are white.

reply

Enough about reverse racism and double standards.

Case A : a CEO makes a pass at a secretary
Case B : a secretary makes a pass at a CEO

Is it a double standard to say that Case A should get more attention? No, because the CEO has all the power. Liberals would rush to defend the secretary in Case A and ignore Case B because the secretary would need help, while the CEO in Case B already has all the resources he needs to defend himself. It's the same with white/black racism. Yes, there are black racists, but black people generally aren't the ones running things in America.

"If that had been two white women saying the same lines but saying "a BLACK woman" Al Sharpton would call for an end to the network, Jesse Jackson would demand an immediate end to the show, and Johnny Cochran would rise out of his grave to take on the case. " --- tjtrumpet-2

That's because it wasn't too long ago that a bunch of white people could get together and lynch a black man without worrying about getting arrested.

reply

"Enough about reverse racism and double standards."

Really? So you're saying that reverse racism and double standards are OK, as long as it applies only to certain people?

Let's revisit the line that started the thread. And yes, I realize we all have to go along with the premise of the scene. The teller informs Sherri about certain bank rules that must be followed to complete Sherri's request. I'm not a banker, but I would guess these rules are in actual practice in most every bank in America.

Sherri informs the teller about the race of the woman who has prompted Sherri's actions. The teller then takes it upon herself to BREAK THE RULES OF THE BANK. This sends a MESSAGE that it's OK to break the rules / break the law if it's prompted by a WHITE person. Do you think that won't be imprinted in a young person's mind?

Let's revisit the scene again, but this time the teller is White or Asian or Mexican. Which do you think would go along with the Black teller's actions?

Were there other ways for the writers to play the scene? ABSOLUTELY!! But instead they went for low-brow humor, pandering to the lowest common denominator, which is all that this show does - pander.

reply

Are you serious?

If you're going to complain about this show for using a little racial humor, then i suggest you also write to the networks that air the Jeffersons, All in the Family, Mama's Family, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Golden Girls, the George Lopez show, and many other tv series throughout the years wherein racial humor is played

Heaven forbid you watch a Richard Pryor skit, or even a Chris Rock skit

Now most of those shows are just in syndication so if you want something that's still on the air. Family Guy, The cleveland show, South Park, etc

you are looking for racism where there is none. And by trying to be so politically correct where comedy is concern, you're taking away the humor of the show. Majority of us know that the comedy is not malicious, and thus can sit back and laugh at it whether it was a Black, white or Latina doing the scene that has you so rattled up.

It's not reverse racism. trust.

I don't have to "look" for it - it's right there, in front of everyone's face. Do you think Sherri would have got the same reaction and assistance had the bank teller been white and Sherri said the same line?

I can absolutely assure you that I am NOT "politically correct" in any way, shape or form. Political correctness is just an accepted popular way of allowing people to hide their true feelings and beliefs. It encourages people to LIE. There are no laws requiring nor an acceptable definition of "political correctness" - it is ambiguity at its finest. Political correctness is, at best, a fad - and hopefully one that will die quickly. When facts and truths are revealed, political correctness disappears.

Yes, true comedy is not malicious - comedy it is irony, where something happens that you do not expect. But all we can expect from shows like Sherri is racism, pure and simple.

"..not reverse racism"? Then it most assuredly is racism reversed. It is not funny at all - it is pure pandering.

reply

@TJtrumpet

Here's a definition of political correctness---simply respecting other cultures and minorities by calling them what THEY wish to be called, and respecting THAT. You don't even know how to define it yourself/what the hell is really is, so how can you say it's just this and that, and that it's an accepted form of lying--which it isn't, that's just BS. Also, there is no such thing as "reverse racism"--that's just a term white people came up with to complain when they supposedly get discriminated against, and as a deflection to distract others from their own racism---which isn't a hell of a lot, considering white folks are the majority in this country.

This is what political correctness is---white people always love to throw that term up, but they never explain what it actually means or what its real purpose is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_correctness

I like Sherri and I love her show, so get over yourself. Like the other poster said, you better be more concerned about and protest against these undercover white racists in power who actually have the means to enforce their racism through the law. Go after them and stop worrying about some little comments you heard in a comedy show--it's ridiculous!

reply

"Really? So you're saying that reverse racism and double standards are OK, as long as it applies only to certain people? " -tjtrumpet-2

I'm saying it is not a double standard when people don't get as upset about black racism as they do about white racism, because white people have most of the power in this country.

Racism + POWER = oppression of the other race.

Racism + no power = some jerk mouthing off.

The standard is "the more power you have, the less slack you get". If a federal judge makes a racist remark, it's a bigger deal than if the guy taking your order at Burger King makes a racist remark, because judges make decisions that change lives. Morally speaking, they might be equally bad people, realistically it would be a good idea to concentrate your energy on removing the federal judge before you start a letter writing campaign to get the fast food worker fired.

reply

Racism is racism - period. Reverse racism is a supposedly accepted-by-all popular trend but in reality is nothing but pure racism in hiding.

All in the Family & The Jeffersons were and still are groundbreaking shows that did and still do amazing things towards the END of racism, as they played on stereotypes and prejudices that had not as yet ever been shown on TV. They were ORIGINAL, TIMELY and TOPICAL. They carry as strong a message today as they did when originally run.

The other shows mentioned, including Sherri, are low-budget rip-offs that do nothing but pander and incite.

Tell me - when was the last time you saw a major white character in any TV show insult or put down a black / Asian / Latino actor? Yeah, that's what I thought - there HAVEN'T BEEN ANY IN RECENT MEMORY. Why? because the acceptance of reverse racism has been pounded into American's psyches and that to say otherwise immediately brands someone as a RACIST.

But all those other shows mentioned - the vast majority of the "humor" comes from black / Asian / Latino-aimed against white RACISM. The ONLY thing is does is promote and encourage MORE racism.

Richard Pryor was an original albeit heavily Redd Foxx-influenced comedian. Chris Rock is nothing but a Richard Pryor wanna-be with a violenty active racist attitude. Yes, he's hilarious when he stays away from racist topics, but the vast majority of his scthick is just that - attacks against whites.

I'll stop only when ALL racism has ended.

reply

"I'll stop only when ALL racism has ended."

Sweetie, you have a LONG wait on your hands.
Cant we all just get along????

They do call Dr. Miranda Bailey, who is black, "the Nazi" on Grey's Anatomy. I don't recall any specific instances but I'm pretty sure that someone has said something nasty about Dr. Yang at some point in the series. But I did notice a double standard on that show. Apparently the show's writers think it's OK for dying patients to make fun of healthy people, but it's a suddenly a BIG DEAL when healthy people mock a dying patient. Like it's somehow in bad taste to make fun of those less fortunate than you. Not that that in any way applies to minorities in America :)

If you really want a cause, you could work on the Israel/Palestine conflict. Any time someone criticizes the actions of the Israeli government they get branded a Jew hater. Jewish critics get branded self-hating Jews. It is basically a smoke-screen to prevent an honest debate about the war crimes of the Israeli government. Concentrate on the stuff that is actually killing people instead of a tv show that is probably going to be canceled anyway.

too bad he's dead now I wouldn't mind to see more of it

as for the OP

I second the idea to go and stand up for real life racist problems like the one in Isreal, instead of getting my knickers in a bunch over a st**** TV show.

As for racial comments towards Black people go and see "It's always sunny in Philadelphia" it's one of those so called cringe comedies.

I didn't like it and decided not to watch it anymore. Easy

but of course it's always good to have a case. so good luck with that.

reply

I did not perceive it that at all and when I watch a comedy I certainly take it with a grain of salt. Programs such as 30 Rock, Family Guy and many others make racial jokes a part of their regular programming. That being the case, you will have to include NBC/Universal and FOX on your roster when drafting your letter of complaint.

Wasn't there a line in the 2009 sitcom "CougarTown" where Courtney Cox (she's major and white, right?) says something to a dark complexioned African American Door Man (hmm, no stereotype there?) along the lines of "Wow you are REALLY black! But you wear it well."

Wouldn't her husband be considered the one who broke their wedding vows? I mean, he did have an affair and had another child in the process. It's even more disgusting that she found out right after their sun was born 15 weeks premature.

And it's not like they got divorced right away. They split up, then reconciled and went to counseling, but it obviously didn't go well.

It says a lot about her character that she was able to forgive him in the first place. Many women couldn't do that.

Not to sound rude, but are you a Christian? You seem to judge someone you don't even know so harshly. Are you perfect?
