The text messages

I'm kind of lost here. Who sent those nasty private text messages to him?

reply

I was wondering the same thing. Must have been an ex, or maybe it was the woman who was his co-star in his movie. Remember the pics he had made with her in front of the movie poster? She was pretty perturbed with him and kept whispering snide comments to him. It sounded like he must have dumped her after a one-night stand or something. So, maybe it was her. If it wasn't, I don't know who it was.

I'm not afraid of heights, snakes or redheaded women (Raylan).

reply

Her identity doesn't really matter. The point is that it could be any NUMBER of angry women in his life, women he's slept with and just discarded. It goes to show the shallowness of his existence, among other things, and where it's gotten him.

reply

No, it shows he's a winner. Normal guys don't get messages from their exes because those women never give them another thought--they are too busy pursuing, screwing, and mourning guys like Johnny

reply

If his life was so great, why'd he walk away from it?

reply

@timlin- you really think the threatening text messages were Coppola trying to show that Johnny is a "winner"? Really?

You're missing the entire point of the film.

reply

I took it to be maybe his own conscience talking to him. But either way it just delved more into his character

"America's not a country. It's just a business. Now *beep* pay me."

reply

Hmm as I saw it..it was for me quite obvious that his daughter sent those messages to her father, she sent the messages to get his attention.

I like the movies from Sophia Coppola. They make me feel so happy. :)

It does make me wonder what part of this was (a bit) autobiographic. A daughter wanting attention from her father....who works in the movie business. :)

Makes the whole movie even more bittersweet.

Follow the white rabbit....

reply

Definitely, I thought this movie had a lot of autobiographical scenes. We were watching little Coppola and her Daddy.

The texts were NOT from his daughter, as the previous poster has proven.

I like what someone else said here....that it was his conscience talking to him.

"You're telling me the future is video and NOT film?"

reply

The texts were from me. Telling him this is a god awful boring ass film.
