I agree, I also found it very moving. The stillness, the uneventfulness, the dreary life of a Hollywood superstar viewed from the darkest perspective possible. I love how it shows how a lifestyle and privileges that all people probably associate with magnificence can turn out to be as agonizingly dull as any other lifestyle.
The character of Johnny is very interesting. It's like he's stumbled upon uber fame but doesn't seem at all ecstatic about it. Once he has it, he goes through his life as if to go through the motions, no real passion is shown for anything. I feel as if the time he spent with his daughter filled him with the most passion he'd felt in a long time hence his breaking down as she took off to camp. It's wonderful to see him breaking down on the telephone, it speaks LOADS. All that fame, money, sex yet there's an underlying and perpetual emptiness to his life. Final scene is terrific, I believe he'll finally make a change for the better.
