What makes Elizabeth Banks qualified to make this movie?

I was excited to see this movie until I found out Elizabeth Banks was the director. What's going to be "the message" she going for in trying to lecture the audience. When it fails is she going to blame Toxic Masculinity again? It's even more sad to me knowing this is Ray Liotta's last movie.

reply

Well see. She has the money and connections to make it. I hope she just makes a fun movie. I'm going to watch it, bit then again, I have no issue with walking out if it stinks.

reply

ALL MOVIES HAVE A MESSAGE...YOU'RE ONLY PISSY BECAUSE YOU DISAGREE WITH HER.

reply

It depends if the message works with the story. If it's like a purge sequel, I check out. If it's like Rob Roy, I'm in. Banks played it heavy with Charlie's Angels. Let's see if she's handles this better.

reply

CHARLIE'S ANGELS WAS FAIRLY MEDIOCRE...IF SHE HAD DELIVERED A BETTER FILM HER MESSAGING WOULDN'T HAVE MATTERED AS MUCH...I AM A FAN OF HER AS AN ACTOR...HER WORK AS A DIRECTOR HAS BEEN LESS THAN THRILLING.

reply

Agreed

reply

Not all messages are good.

reply

You spend an embarrassing amount of time on this website.

reply

WHAT QUALIFIES AS EMBARRASSING IS VERY SUBJECTIVE...IN REALITY I AM ONLY HERE A COUPLE HOURS A DAY...I JUST MAKE THE MOST OF MY TIME...THIS SITE ROCKS AND DESERVES THE ATTENTION.

reply

Do you ask this of every director that directs something or just the female ones?

reply

[deleted]

It's a subject matter that would likely be better if it was made by a man.

reply

Why? Really, why?

reply

Good question.

The OP is beign ridiculous.

Maybe he thinks only men are qualified to tell stories about cocaine.

reply

He couldn't even come up with a nonsensical answer.

reply

Because it's a comedy, and everyone knows women aren't funny (:

reply

Women comedians arent funny because you are not allowed to laugh at women and most of the comedians job is to laugh at him/herself.

reply

According to IMDB, this a dark comedy. I don't see anything ilin her background that indicates she can direct a humorous comedy, much less a dark comedy. We'll see.

reply

That's like saying that prior to making The Color Purple, there was nothing in Spielberg's filmography to indicate that he was qualified to make a film featuring an all-Black cast focusing on an early 20th century woman living with an abusive husband.

reply

When Spielberg directed TCP he had 15 years producing and directing TV episodes and full-length films in various genres. Ten of those years he directed five of the most successful and influential films ever made.

This will be Banks fourth full length film. The only success was Pitch Perfect II, a sequel with a built-in audience.

You might want to find a comparison that makes sense.

reply

How qualified does one have to be to direct a film called 'Cocaine Bear'?

reply

Just admit you made a bad analogy. I am beginning to suspect you are a ghost account for The so-called Argentinian.

reply

But there was nothing in Spielberg's filmography prior to The Color Purple that suggested he was the right fit for such that subject matter, so I don't see how I was off.

And filmmakers have to start somewhere.

reply

As for The Argentinian, I want to stay on their good side, because I'm tired of having a go at fellow progressives, but we are clearly not the same people. They are further to the left than me, and I suspect there will be a good few topics where they will disagree with my more 'centre-left', and even occasionally *centrist*, position. I'm not as 'woke' as them (not that I use the term as a criticism/attack, and not that I am anti-woke). Still, hopefully we will get along.

reply

After further consideration, you do seem to be rational, sane, and intelligent. So that clears you as a ghost account. I am for getting along.

reply

Don't check out my recent OPs, because you may start to rethink what you just said about me being 'rational, sane, and intelligent'. LOL.

That said, I know when I go on a rant, and I think there is usually some underlying truth to my rants, even if I occasionally over-egg my argument.

Anyway, thanks for the compliment. Hopefully we can get along.

reply

She built her career playing in offbeat comedies. It makes sense that she'd make a picture like this.

reply

Exactly what qualification do you imagine makes someone especially suitable to direct a film about a bear on a cocaine-fueled rampage?

reply

the bear represent patriarchy and the victims are brave female who will defeat bear (patriarchy) while other man (liotta) try to stop them from being free of patriarchy hahahahaha

reply

I'm genuinely sad this is Ray Liotta's last movie and it's directed by a fucking woman. It's embarrassing.

reply

yes it is shame liottas last film is woketard helm. he deserve better.

if you want to watch great liotta film then watching something from pre-woketard era like goodfellas will cleanse you of modern woketard cinema.

reply

He was great in everything he did, but my pick is 'Escape from Absolom' - one of his best roles ever and awesome movie too.

reply

have not seen but will put on my watchlists thank you for recommend.

liotta also excellent in copland, no escape, unlawful entrys and article 99. these are superb liotta film that showcase liotta talents.

reply

[deleted]

Ah, No escape IS Escape from Absolom (alternate title). We have a similar taste in this regard - I too like all those movies you've listed.

Ray was great in everything he did and I'm a huge fan. Never seen him do a bad part and even if the movie sucked overall, his presence always made it better. Sucks that he passed away, but we'll always have his flicks to appreciate the man.

reply

yes his acting style was very intense but he seem very human which make his performances better. good actor and good man. i agree it is good to have all his great film to appreciates. good acting quality lasts.

reply

Maybe the late great Ray Liotta had a better attitude towards women than you do. That might be a part of what made him so great.

reply

Can you pinpoint what exactly is woke at this movie?

I haven't seen it so I have no idea ...

reply

Elizabeth Banks is the director.

reply

Rofl. Ok, that's a stupid thing to say.

WHAT is woke in the movie?

reply

The Andrew Tate energy is overflowing in this post!
