It is very difficult to find.

There has been only one release of it that I'm aware of. It was issued by a label called, "Shock DVD", based in Austria, I believe. But copies are still hard to find. I don't see it on EBay, Amazon, IOffer, sell.com, or any of those kinds of sites. Plus, the only version out there has NO SUBTITLES. It is German soundtrack only.

And be warned. It is not for the faint of heart.

I haven't seen it, but there are clips from it online, plus many stills, a trailer, reviews, etc. . Just some of the reviews I've read along with pics it showed have me shaken by it a bit. :)

I would like to find it for those reasons but i dont speak German. Maybe criterion will pick it up. I still dont even know what it is but i enjoyed his other film alot, Also i cant help but be interested by the macabre or rare films.

Without spoiler-ing it too much (LOL), it seems to concern a couple of guys who used to kill and commit sadistic acts together, who are close friends with this shared/mutual dark past, reuniting after having not seen each other in many years. One of them is now dying, so they want to go out and spend this guy's last days together by having one last big "hurrah", if you will, at the place they used to do this stuff at. They pick up a couple of young girls at a carnival in the city, then a heavy set, masochistic, weird woman at a bar, and then they all head out to this old, dilapidated house in the middle of a forest waayy out in the middle of nowhere. Once there, two more guests, a strange, enigmatic old man and his companion, a young woman who is wheel-chair bound, join them there. They dine, they talk philosophy and so on (the dying man identifies himself with the "fallen angel", Satan, apparently). They do drugs. Then, the most excruciating mayhem begins, and continues for the next hour and a half or so.

Note that this film is nearly THREE HOURS long, and after the first slow hour or so, it becomes horrifying. It also ends rather ambiguously, too.

And be warned, among its many horrors, you will see: a pregnant woman forced to abort, and then the fetus muilated, a young girl is knife raped and then has an ovary ripped out of her, a man is disemboweled and then burned while still alive, a crippled girl has her colostomy bag ripped off and the hole in her side is fingered, REAL animal slaughter takes place, and many other very brutal atrocities occur. There is also tons of scatalogical content involving feces, urine, and vomit, as well. This may well be one of the most horrific films ever made.

There are streaming and torrent downloads around on some off-the-beaten-path sites, but the only place I've seen the DVD available is on the German amazon.de , but it is quite expensive, and it is only in German without subtitles.

Watch it if you dare. I finally saw it on some little site that had it there for streaming. And it is as bad as they say.

Wow i will wait for a relase with subs cause it would have to have a great storyline to be worth putting that kind of stuff in. Holycrap that makes antichrist and a serbian film and cannibeal look like winnie the pooh

I just read your description of the contents of this film. I'm just wondering, who would actually want to look at that stuff. A forced abortion, guttings, feces, urine, etc.. I just don't get it. What is the fascination with this stuff? For people who want to look at stuff this vile, why don't they just ask their friends/family to not flush the toilet after they use it, so that they might go in and have a look? it's pretty much the same thing, isn't it?

Some watch out of morbid curiosity, but don't actually enjoy it for the most part.

It's partially because of the ridiculous amount of offensive things, that it can make one curious as to why and how they could manage to put all of that offensive content into one cohesive story.

Didn't seem to have very much of one to me, but I skipped around out of curiosity, rather than watching it all the way through.

The actual animal cruelty is unforgivable and completely unwarranted; anything can be faked in graphically realistic detail. There is no excuse to harm another for the sake of art or entertainment. I skipped those scenes for the most part, but knowing it happened still makes me angry and think terrible things about those who participated. It's not art; it's real cruelty and murder, and I would never work with the scumbags. I don't care if they want to pee on each other or whatever; they are consenting adults, but they should not harm animals; especially for frivolous reasons. That's the only thing that really disgusts me about this film and those actual "people" who participated.

If I have been misinformed and all of the animal violence is fake, I apologise, but as far as I am aware, at least some of it is real.

Maybe Criterion will pick it up? LOL! Criterion would not touch something like this..it would destroy their elite name..

I highly doubt that Criterion will pick this up in the near future, although I wouldn't pigeonhole Criterion the way you have because one of their first releases was Pier Paolo Pasolini's notorious final film Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom.

What is your point? "Salo: 120 Days of Sodom" is a recognized classic, from a legendary film maker. It is also an iconic, milestone in film history. that is why criterion released it. I never suggested that Criterion shied away from controversial films; on the contrary, they have many disturbing films in their catalog. The reason they wouldn't touch THIS film, is because it is not important, not considered art..in fact it is trash. And that is the ONLY reason Criterion would not touch this. And the idea that they would is preposterous actually..

Ahhh, I see where you're coming from now. From your earlier post it sounded like you were implying that Criterion releasing a controversial film would damage their reputation. Although one could argue that if Criterion can release a Michael Bay film in the collection without significantly damaging their reputation, then perhaps they can get away with anything.

What Michael Bay film was released by Criterion??

The Rock and Armageddon, surprisingly enough. Although if you ask me I think they released these under the Criterion banner in order to finance more serious projects.

Wow, it is hard to imagine trash films like "Armageddon" and "The Rock" being released from the same label that puts out things like Nagisa Oshima boxsets and "Ivan's Childhood" etc.. But your theory is probably correct; those obscure art house releases aren't exactly 'big sellers,' and even at $70, they couldn't be raking in profits that large. Talk about prostituting your own name for profits..

Only on Laserdisc? Not on dvd? Anyway the films of John Waters are iconic and important in their own right, so it would not surprise me at all if Criterion released his work.

Who is to judge whether this movie is a piece of art or not? Critics?

You haven't even seen this film, and yet you write it off as garbage. That's so idiotic that it's just sad.
I'm sure you think that this movie is like gore-movies such as August Underground and, even worse, Murder Set Pieces, but it's definitely not. It's a well made film. It's shocking and disgusting, yes, but it's interesting and thought provoking too - you know, kind of like SalĂł ( you know, the "important" film that's considered to be "true art" ).

*beep* continuity! Just shoot the goddamn movie!"
- My filmmaking motto.

reply

Well "Salo" is a work of art, and because it is such, it does not need to show every disgusting thing in graphic detail. Alot of what happens in Pasolini's film is only suggested and not actually shown. An artist can actually accomplish that. But a trash film maker needs to show nauseating content because without it, his film would not get any attention at all. Maybe this film actually is well-made; in that case it's too bad that most people will never see it because of the images it contains. Even if I had a copy of this sitting in front of me, i doubt I would watch it. Because no matter how good a film is, I just don't want to see the things described. Very few people want to look at that..Don't you think that the creator of this film could have made an equally powerful movie without actually showing everything in nauseating detail?

The Rock and Armageddon are seminal blockbusters of their time, well made films and still beloved today by everybody but awful hipsters. Criterion celebrates film of all kinds, and those two are highly influential films that deserve their spot on the list.

reply

The film is now up on Youtube in full (and uncensored).

They released Armageddon that is more shameful than this. .

Hahahahahahahahahahaha! Are you serious?? Criterion wouldn't touch this piece of infectious waste with rubber gloves. That label specializes in classic, foreign, and arthouse stuff. Why would they release a piece of scat porn/animal snuff film on their label? That would completely destroy their reputation. This movie is a piece of pig excrement, (like the pig excrement one of the "actresses" eats in this film.) It's a movie for men who have been rejected by women their whole lives and now hate them for it. It's a movie made by a big loser, for other losers to watch on a dateless Saturday night.. No; Criterion will not be "picking this up..."
