Why won't they use the book characters and plots?

The last one they did with the made up plots and characters stunk to high heaven. This looks like it will go down the same road of stink.

Is it really that difficult to adapt the plots and characters from the book? Sir richard Francis Burton would rock out on the small screen. Oh well what can you do?

Well, the Burton character is in it, but I don't know how much it has changed from the book. However, I do know that Peter Wingfield is a terrific actor and is very excited about playing Burton and about the movie. I'm willing to give it a chance.

Yep love Wingfield, just reading the books now and I'm loving them too, Riverworld is such a great concept.. could be a cool video game too if someone smart decides to make it. Imagine an MMO where you spawn on a different server when you die.. maybe to never see your comrades again, could make for some interesting gameplay and player interaction.

I was thinking the same thing when i read the book (for the fifth time)... We should start pushing a company to do it... The concept of dealing with total randomness would put some adventure in mmorpg.
About the movie... i just reject the idea of being SO different that the book... it would be great if producers would stop thinking that people would start hitting their heads to the walls if they don't include an alien-vampire-robot-who-dies-at-the-end for "adapting" the serie... The book is good enough, i think phillip j. farmer deserves a loyal adaptation to his great books
