If you enjoyed the 'Underworld' series you might enjoy this!

If you saw the Underworld series then you might find something to enjoy in "I Frankenstein." It is from the same producers of Underworld (Kevin Grevioux is one, also behind creating Underworld and I, Frankenstein in general, and had supporting roles in both). I loved 'Underworld' and I thought 'I, Frankenstein' did what it was supposed to do. Could it have been better? Yes, but I enjoyed the story and found it entertaining. As someone already said it's a 'popcorn flick' aka a film you see for fun, for pure entertainment.

It's the exact same movie.

I count six shots.
I count two guns!

In all honesty, as weird as this sounds, I think it's more intelligent and better written than Underworld, over all.

reply

more intelligent and better written than Underworld? i can't believe that ANY film could be better than those super high quality, ground breaking films.

I really hope you're being sarcastic...

You have an astute command of the obvious.

If that sounds familiar, that seems to be the sentiment of this movie.

Instead of vampires and werewolves, it's gargoyles and demons in need of a reluctant saviour - instead of one in the form of a hybrid, he's a soulless kung-fu patchwork. There are turn-y things in the floor, and crazy gizmo science-y blade-y things. Then it steals quite liberally from Van Helsing. Plus a Frankenstein creature named Adam - that is from Season 4 of Buffy. And the whole Gothic transmogrifying gargoyle dealie was a 90's cartoon. A security force in black suits - never seen that in like a trillion places before.

Spotting this movie's unoriginality was the best part of its running time.

You honestly believe that? You honestly thought the Frankenstein Monster in Buffy was named that by chance and that this movie STOLE the name from Buffy?!?

I just had to stop myself from hitting my desk at the raw ignorance of what you said. Seriously, I had to stop myself from hitting my desk. Consider this.

In the novel Frankenstein The Creature was quite obsessed with a work of literature known as Paradise Lost by John Milton.

Paradise Lost told the story of Lucifer and his angels being cast out of Heaven (ironically the main villain in this movie is one of those fallen angels). Paradise Lost also told the story of ... ADAM and Eve. This was The Frankenstein Monster's favorite work of literature in Mary Shelley's novel. He quoted it often.

And when he confronts his creator "I should have been Thy Adam." he says to Victor and "I am the Adam of your labours."

Mary Shelley once said that if The Creature was to name himself he would pick the name Adam.

Adam is also the name of the Frankenstein Monster in Ravenloft and The Frankenstein Monster in the 1966 TV series Dark Shadows.

http://darkshadows.wikia.com/wiki/Adam

The version in Buffy was named after the version in Dark shadows. The version in Dark Shadows was named for the quote in Mary Shelley's novel! The one on Buffy was a homage TO Frankenstein already!

Dark Shadows and later Ravenloft took the quote from Mary Shelley and her monster and used the name Adam for The Frankenstein Monster long, long before Buffy.

I am tired of people who have never touched Mary Shelley's novel whining about the name Adam as if it's something new or being so ignorant at to spit in the face of it when Joss Whedon is paying homage to a show he grew up with!

Bash the movie because it's cheesy, because there are things Syfy could have done better, because the actor playing Adam is too buff and not corpse-like or Unearthly. Bash the film for these reasons. But don't bash the thigns they actually got from Mary Shelley's novel!

So if you smoke pot all day and your room smells like feet and cheese you may like this film?

"I can't help but notice that there are skulls all over everything. Are we the baddies?"

reply

Don't smoke pot. And Rebel, while the same people are behind the film and yes, the insert gargoyles/demons for vampires and lycans is valid, there's enough differences between the two that I don't see them as the Same film. If you and others do, yippee! Give yourself a cookie

Well I like the underworld series and end up liking I frankenstien

reply

I dunno about that...I enjoy the Underworld films because a) they have Kate Beckinsale in a tight leather outfit, and b) they have bloody, hard-R action. I,Frankenstein has neither and I think it looks like garbage.

reply

They should have put Eckhart in a tight leather outfit.

reply

Yeah, like Ben Affleck in Daredevil.

reply

I enjoy the Underworld movies and I enjoyed this movie too. Like you said they good old popcorn fun. Back in the day it would have been a "B" movie. The problem today is that even popcorn movies cost many millions of dollars to make and thus end up losing money.

With great power comes great responsibility.

Agreed. There are lots of things they could have done better but in general it's just a fun B style movie with a twist in that for the first time they are not using the Universal studios archetype monster. Now granted I think it was a huge mistake leaping to tan hunk like that. They should have used someone who was gaunt and corpse-like and given him the yellowish eyes from the book and at least made him seem tall but oh, well.

I'm a big fan of the Underworld series, they're a bit of a guilty pleasure so was looking forward to this. Unfortunately I just found it rather cringe-worthy and if it wasn't for 1) The Cast and 2) The Connections to Underworld then this would have gone straight to DVD.

I enjoyed underworld well the first couple but they were a popular genre at that time now there are too many and have had their time.

I would say if u have not seen underworld you may enjoy this because otherwise you will think oh another one of these films, what fun (!)

reply

i LOVE the UNDERWORLD films. i thought I, FRANKENSTEIN was stupid, mindless fun. a silly but enjoyable-ish popcorn flick. the UNDERWORLD movies are much much better.

reply

No, Underworld is much much better, especially the original.

reply

I, Frankenstein had the story, had the special effects, and had okay acting, but the one thing I didn't like was how the movie developed. It was too much of the same.
Another thing missing was the bad guy enemies looks. The thick-headed demons with human bodies looked like a joke. The only thing I thought about when a demon showed up was Doctor Who, and I dislike Doctor Who.
The whole movie was way too much unrealistic. How come nobody was outside when the demons and gargoyles were fighting each other?
