The secret battle being waged between Demons and Gargoyles ....

Dozens of gargoyles flying around. Hundreds of vampires running in the streets and rooftops. Flames and beams of light shooting every where. So secret.

Also: the Gargoyles' cathedral HQ in the middle of a city.
They don't know where the Demons' HQ is until Adam leads them there. Turns out it's an enormous palace, 5 minutes' walk from the cathedral, has been there for centuries without the Gargoyles noticing.

And the giant cathedral in the middle of a modern (unnamed) European city (though everyone speaks (mostly British) English), that no humans or priests visit for church services or even notice when flocks of Gargoyles fly out and battle Demons. No police, no spectators. Just CGI monsters fighting each other like some videogame.

reply

Yeah. I LOL"d at that.

Aftere a short walk

"Wait, hes leading us to them"

reply

Yeah I thought that part was a bit silly. They've been battling the demons for centuries but they don't know where their HQ is. They never though to send a gargoyle to scout the location after all that time.

Utah! Get me two.

reply

But it was at night, so no one saw. Or if they did, they were drunk.

reply

Yeah, and apparently people don't own camera phones in this world, and Youtube doesn't exist. That's how they keep it so secret.

reply

If you look at the clothes and cars of "mortals" Neither phone cameras nor youtube has been invented yet in the period this is set.

You are joking right? You did see all of the scenes that took place in the laboratory?

Gargoyles versus Demons?
Are Gargoyles the good guys?

reply

Vampires were there? Wow! I didn't see that coming.

Vampires? There weren't any vampires in this movie. It wouldn't have hurt, or changed anything, but no vampires.

Vampires , Vampires? There were no stinking vampires. Get your facts straight.

reply

Yes, a secret battle waged between Gargoyles and Demons ... in plain sight high above a city that seems to be mostly deserted of humans out in public and on the streets. Where the hell are the city residents during the street fight shots? It's like one of those old world towns where no one leaves the house after sundown to be safe from the unknown monsters lurking in the dark.

I can only suspend my disbelief so far, this time it didn't work. Sitting there saying "oh my god you've gotta be kidding" and "come ON!" more than once is a bad sign

reply

I just watched it yesterday and that's what I was thinking too. Were there just 10 or 12 speaking roles in this film? Were there any members of the public or press or military? Did the "good guys" just hope the bad guys wouldn't storm their "castle" (in a city center)?

It's funny. I really liked a lot of this film. Eckhart I thought did a good job. Most of the actors did. The effects were good, the lighting, the choreography, good.

But that over-loud and corny narration? Oh man. Whose talentless son-in-law got that screen-writing job?

reply

Is it possible that in this world, the demons and gargoyles can not be seen by human eyes ? The cathedral is just a tourist destination by the tourist and these gargoyles live in different dinension etc ?

The scientists both saw and interacted with the demons, so, alas, I don't think this is the reason. It would be nice as a reason to make it all make sense (like the Mist in the Percy Jackson novels), but the film makers apparently didn't think of it.

reply

I know what it was. It's like that Mortal Instruments movie where they had these runes that made themselves invisible to humans. The Gargoyles and Demons have some magic bullsh!t that makes their supernatural activities unseen by humans. But some still leak through every so often (like that cop who was killed near the beginning).

reply

Yeah -- and with all those demons bursting into huge fireballs when they get killed on the rooftops, how come the cathedral and the entire neighborhood aren't going up in flames?
