crushed26,

Your list is excellent. Those are the bands I would pick, although I'd swap Tool for Smashing Pumpkins, and switch Alice In Chains for Stone Temple Pilots.

Pearl Jam is my favorite band of the 90s, but Soundgarden was probably the "better" band. Nobody wrote songs like them. Superunknown alone had some of the most whacked out songs that almost shouldn't have worked ("Limo Wreck," "Head Down," "Fourth of July") but somehow did because of how well they were composed.

reply

In no paticular order.......... Except for The Cure, they are at #1

The Cure
Soundgarden
Candlebox
Nirvana
Pearl Jam
Radiohead
At The Drive-In
Alice in Chains
RAGE

Green Day (Insomnia album only)
Fat Boy Slim (lol)
Cowboy Mouth
Better than Ezra
Silverchair
Smashing Pumpkins
Oasis
Matchbox Twenty

I can't believe no one has named Jesus Jones yet.

Kidding aside though I hate 90's music for the most part, and yes I lived through the decade, I was 12 in 1990, the 90's were horrible music wise, fashion wise, movies wise (ok im NOT saying it's necessarily better NOW though. well music is probably slightly better, fashion undoubtedly better and movies....not sure) and I wish I could get those years back to then use them to live through a different decade and no I don't know what I'm doing here. I did think I liked grunge at one point but then it turned out I was wong. I do respect Pearl Jam however for totally having the opportunity to become the biggest band in the world at one point and passing on it in favor of integrity. I'd list my fav like...five 90's bands but then someone would call me a fag surely. Let's just say, as in any decade the brits were doing a lot better than the americans even in the 90's.

Oh and to whoever said Nickelback. Look, they made the 2000's suck WAY enough so please do not retroactively let them suckify the 90's even more than they it needs to be. This decade has enough *beep* to apologize for as it is. Yes they had their first record in 1996, it was self released, nobody listened to it. It was 2000 when they had their second one. NOT a band of the 90's that counts. Though they sure took this 90's post grunge *beep* and ran with it. Only a canadian band could be so out of their time and suck so much (I am actually canadian so I think I'm allowed to bash my own country and our poor contribution to music history, yeah yeah, Neil young...who else? Leonard Cohen? he's mainly a writer more than a musician. Who else? That's right. You're stumped). Here since I can't list my favorite bands of the 90's how about i list the two suckiest bands to have been born out of the 90's musical excesses in mediocrity

1- Creed
2- Nickelback

Two worst bands ever. No contest. The first time I heard Creed I was actually CONVINCED it was Eddie Vedder singing. I'd like to have Vedder apologize for giving the idea to Scott stapp to sing this way but I guess really he doesn't need to, he can't be responsible for people aping him but if he could find Stapp (wherever this talentless loser is) and kill him though, that'd be appreciated. He owes us THAT much.

reply

Seriously the 90s didn't suck- the music produced in that decade was on par with the 60s- Nirvana, Primal Scream, The Chemical Brothers, Orbital, Sugar, PJ Harvey, Nick Cave, My Bloody Valentine, The Cure, Radiohead, Blur, Pulp, Neutral Milk Hotel, Pavement, Soundgarden- the list goes on- don't get me started on the films- Unforgiven, Beauty and the Beast, Fight Club, Pulp Fiction, Fargo, Goodfellas,LA Confidential, Toy Story, Clerks, Leon- bloody hell mate- you didn't live the 90s- you grew up in them. I was 18 in 1990 and the first five years produced some of the greatest music ever!
Who gives a crap about Nickleback? Oh apparently you do. Shut up.

reply

Pearl Jam is #1. Then, in no particular order...

Nirvana
Soundgarden
AiC
RATM
Bad Religion
Die Toten Hosen
Tool
Rammstein
STP
Rancid
FNM
Social Distortion
Dropkick Murphys
Foo Fighters
Pennywise

And I think that's it. Curious thing, except 2 Krauts, all of them are American, and mostly West Coast.

PS: I guess it's not necessary to point out that this is my taste and I don't give a F. if you don't like it, is it?

"That was a courtesy flush. I'm not actually done yet"
