How to know you are getting old

Bands you liked in high school are getting double-decade retrospectives. It's not enough to wonder where the years went, but now we have to watch formerly vital musicians take their Metamucil.

I don't understand why this movie was made. Two great albums, two good albums, a gimmicky mainstream marketing of their "bootlegs" and then ten years of coasting is hardly a legacy. Not to be cynical but this reeks of self-promotion ahead of a certain director's first major release in years.

I know a few million people who don't agree with you.

plus they must have really boring life to go to imdb site of a documentary of a band they don't even like just to post something offensive.i wish i had so much free time, i would definitely go waste it on hating lady gaga, or whatever those guys listen to.

"I know a few million people who don't agree with you."

No you don't. Thanks for lying. The schoolyard insulter and semi-literate dinosaur that teamed up with you only prove the level of intelligence of remaining fans. Pearl Jam have not made an impact in years because their music has denigrated from insightful to "blahblahblah ole!"

"Nayhay? Dweeloholacram? Bosex."

Somebody gets it.

It is opinion, but one opinion I do agree with eimpson is that "Ole" is terrible. Maybe I'm cynical, but I can't help but think that song was written with the knowledge they are going to South America/Mexico in November and know they'll eat that song up, since they normally sing that Ole futball song during concerts anyway. I think it might be the worst Pearl Jam song since Sweet Lew.

I don't agree with much else. I don't think the release of bootlegs was "gimmicky", it makes good business sense, and it keeps the fans from getting ripped off by bootleggers. I don't know if eimpson ever bought any unofficial bootlegs back in the day before Pearl Jam started releasing their shows, but we would basically pay $25 or more (that's in mid to late 90's dollars) for a sub-standard audience recording.

And your opinion on their albums is just subjective. I don't like every album (Riot Act and Backspacer I can do without, and Binaural is just OK) but all the others I love. If you only like 1-2 albums, then I don't think the film was for you to begin with. Even though the first album is the main focus of the film.

"IF THE DEVIL HAD A NAME, IT WOULD BE CHUCK FINLEY!!"

Totally disagree with you. I'm not a massive fan of the band but albums like Pearl Jam, 10, Vitology and Vs. are pretty good albums- better than most new rock bands produce. They have been a consistently good band since they began and considering twenty years on that they can produce a single as good as the Fixer is testament to that. What the hell does making an impact have to do with a ,easure of their worth- look at the impact Oasis had and they were awful, producing the same crappy Beatles rip off album after album. Idiot!

reply

"Idiot!"

There goes the rest of your argument.

You are not a very eloquent debater are you?

You seem to focus on irrevant external factors. In that sense, media whores such as Lady Gaga, Chris Brown and that pumpkin he smashed are more 'influential'.

When Pearl Jam arrived on the scene they had a unique sound and were a breath of fresh air (especially after the awful glamrock of the 1980s). They have influenced a number of bands but have moved on. That early fanboys do not like PJs later work as much does not change the fact that PJ is one of the best bands of the past 25 years.

reply

Yeah.. well, you know.. thats just like your opinion man.

reply

Pearl Jam had one, maybe two good albums. Everything after is boring, tasteless crap.

reply

So what are you doing here...?

Nope. No signature here. Sorry.

reply

Not only that; they're on the classic rock station.

reply

I thought this was one of those feel-good nostalgic threads, but it's only a cheap shot directed at Pearl Jam.

Anyway, YES, YOU FEEL OLD WHEN your favorite albums from a band are reaching 20th Anniversary Edition status.
