It's necessary to see such things . . .
I read some reviews of this movie, and many complained about yet another Holocaust movie. I don't think one can make too many works of art, especially in popular media like film, about the evils, big and small, that people are capable of. We should be reminded of this potential because it goes on today, around the world. I felt this film was very effective for bringing this to the attention of yet another generation. I especially valued it for three aspects: how official and legalized oppression can bring out latent prejudices and hates, how people are the same in their individual potential for good or bad, and how heros can emerge without prediction from the circumstances of real life.
