I interpreted the scene as Danny knowing his number was up and passing the torch to a next generation "Celtic Warrior". When he told the group of kids to scram, one kid of apparent Irish heritage stayed and even defied Danny's stare-down. This kid was more or less Danny himself thirty years earlier.
