Did this bug anyone else in the episode with the same-sex couple...

That both the moms were these beautiful skinny blondes? I mean, not that gay people are unattractive (Portia DeRossi and all that) but I just personally felt like it took away a little from the theme, made it seem a little less real and a more contrived.

reply

No.

This was (I assume) probably done on purpose as a way of sugar coating the message and lifestyle they were promoting.

Most ignorant people falsely associate Gay/Lesbian with sodomy (anal sex) for men and big, hairy man-like women for Lesbians. By presenting two women who looked like ideal heterosexual mates and persons you might normally run into in society it helps the straight community more easily accept Gays and Lesbians by turning negative stereotypes on their head because that's often why there is so much discrimination against GLTB; false images and misconceptions.

I am just disappointed that when I buy a shirt, eat food, watch TV, walk into a building etc. Atheism, Christianity, Mormonism, Liberalism, Conservatism, Hinduism, Catholicism, Humanism, Islam etc. has go in my head, heart and ear like a sharp needle. When I hear this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcVQBCQnC9Q It reminds me what America is turning into. A crazy world where people will die........

reply

Huh? People die everyday all around the world. Someone is dying somewhere as you read these posts. It's not because it's a "crazy world", but because it's currently part of the cycle of life for carbon based lifeforms.

reply

True, normally one is a butch.

'When there's no more room in Hollywood, remakes shall walk the Earth.'

reply

That's not what I meant. I just didn't think they both needed to look like Hollywood stars. It would have been nice if they looked like average people.

reply

It was so the first gay people kids see won't be unattractive. Let's say this was a child's first experience seeing a gay couple. Everybody on the show is generally good looking. If they put out two people who were less appealing than the other characters, it could send the message that being gay is generally less appealing, which may or may not be true.

reply

I think the majority of the time though 1 of the women is more of a manly type. at least from what Ive witnessed, therefore mimicking nature in a way. I know there are exceptions to this of course.

reply

I mean that happens. But not always, and if the show put out two butch lesbians, kids might get the idea that gay people are indeed different than "normal" people.

reply

I said 1 of the women in the relationship is usually more butch. not both.

reply

There are LOTS of gay female couples where both are femme.

reply

Please for the LOVE OF GOD go youtube Lucy and Kae... Let me know which one is the butch lesbian.

Not all gay couples are the same or follow a similar pattern. Just like how a good looking man doesn't HAVE to marry an equally good looking woman, sure it happens that way a lot, but it's not always that way. Or that one gay man has to be manly and the other has to be feminine. It's just about who the person is as a person aside from their sexuality and who they date isn't defined by a pattern.

God, educate yourselves people.

reply

Yeah but face it not too many shows have couples that look average. It's more so a Hollywood thing. Just like when you walk in a high school the kids don't look like the cast of Pretty Little Liars

Save the date: Decemember 31, 2014 is Cassie's big day!!!

reply

Not all the time. Lots of gay female couples have two femmes.

reply

How does that make it any less real. So what if they were both "pretty." There are "pretty" lesbian couples out there. And this is hollywood everyone is skinny and pretty. I don't see the real problem

reply

It's not that I'm, "Oooh that really steams me!" or anything like that lol it just bugged me a little. And I'm not saying that there aren't pretty lesbian couples, either. I just feel like it would have been nice if they looked a little more like the average person so kids might find it more relatable, this is just my personal opinion. I'm not trying to make any kind of supreme statement or anything :)

reply

They didn't seem particularly beautiful as such. I find Amy more attractive.

reply

Well most shows that have lesbians tend to have the same thing. Just like every hetero couple aren't pretty either.

"Don't they know they're making love to one already dead?!"

Love Les Miserables!!!

This show does like to hire blonde actors. (BTW loved the episode. Glad to see Disney portraying gay couples!!!!!!)

reply

"This show does like to hire blonde actors".

Yeah, so? What should hair color have to do with anything? I find it very interesting that when someone happens to have blonde colored hair it gets mentioned more than the other colors. People should just pay attention to the people and not what they physically look like. If the show was full of brunette's and red-heads would you have made the same observation?

reply

The reason I brought it up was because it was the topic at hand. And yes, the show does have a lot of blondes running around, probably more than you'd find in the general population. All of the Duncans are blond, except Toby and Gabe. And many other characters are blond too. Lots and lots of blonds. If the show had a lot of redheads, I'd say "wow, look at all the redheads." As it is, this show has a lot of blonds. Sometimes I have to wear sunglasses when I watch it.

And try not to be so angry and defensive. You will give yourself a heart attack.

reply

I find it kind of interesting that you mention hair color. What about it? Why not just say you're bothered by them being attractive and thin? There are lots of people with blonde colored hair who are "plain and average" or even "unattractive" looking. If they were brunettes or red-heads would you have said that in the post too? People should just be looked at as people. And not for what they physically look like. No matter what.
