Hikikomori

I just wondered why they were continually called 'shut-ins'in Eden of the East and not 'hikikomori' as the shut-ins of Welcome To The NHK are referred to.
Was it a translation issue? Thinking that viewers of EOTE may not know what a hikikomori is?
