Tracker, True Grit and the MPAA (spoilers)
I know this is a subject that always comes up on these board but i could not help but post this observation after watching Tracker some time ago and then recently True Grit
Both films outline what is wrong with the MPAA. I just saw the Coen Brothers True Grit, a film certified by the MPAA as a PG-13 compared to the Trackers "R" rating yet True Grit is far more violent, contains multiple bloodly sequeences and disturbing scenes of decaying bodies and hanging. To top it of, True Grit has one instance of the f-bomb. Between you and me, i'd rather take my 7 year old to view Tracker than True Grit if i was one who though violence in the media was synonimous (sp) with cultural decay.
Ironically, here in the UK, Tracker receved a 12A rating (no one under the age of 12 will be admitted without an accompanying adult) where as True Grit got a 15 rating (a rating reserved for a few of your PG-13 films but mostly your R-rated films)
Imho i felt more of a conection with the characters in Tracker than True Grit thus enjoying the film more.
