where were the heavy-hitters?

Ross and Giraldo were there, but what about Lisa Lampanelli, Sarah Silverman, Jimmy Kimmel...? Even Ross and Giraldo weren't that mean. Was that in the contract? that Joan would only be roasted if it wasn't THAT bad? or did the others suddenly lose interest in roasts?
I'm actually curious. Have any of the previous roast regulars explained why they weren't there?

To be honest, I could do without Lisa Lampanelli. Half her material was just for the shock value, unlike the subtleties that made others that much better.

Joan is not very well liked by other comedians and Lisa Lampanelli happens to be one of those who don't like her (something about Joan's arrogance or something).

By the way, the only thing roasters were told to stay away from was her daughter.
Some of the roasters still made jokes about her daughter but they were told before hand not to. Without that rule i think more people would have been brutal on Joan's daughter.

I read somewhere that Lisa Lampanelli will only do a Comedy Central Roast if they roast Don Rickles or Howard Stern. I really hope Comedy Central feels they need Lisa back and decide to roast Don Rickles. A roast of Don Rickles would be the best thing ever.

By the way, I heard that Joan does like Sarah Silverman

Johnny Carson 1925-2005. We will never forget you.

sorry, I don't really know anything about Rivers' daughter...why would she ask for her to be off limits as far as joke material goes?

OP: "or did the others suddenly lose interest in roasts? "

haha i actually chuckled when i read that.

certainly there's NO way that is the case.....those "others" you refer to are practically 100% dependent upon these roasts to have any semblance of a career. honestly most of them get no work whatsoever outside of doing a roast like once a year...and then getting a comedy central special to follow it up.

jesus christ I hope Lisa Lampanelli doesn't come back...I've never heard so much repetition from one comedian in my life. She's like the only person that can make black jokes UN-funny. Seriously she's so unknown that even the other comedians' jokes have to be about Lampanelli banging black dudes...making her set even MORE repetitive.

that's true. and what i find the most annoying is, that she hardly ever roasts the roastee. she just does her stupid shocky stand-up routine, whoever is sitting in the chair that day. they are hardly mentioned, while jeff ross takes a swing at the entire stage and gets one "celebrity" after the other and never just tells unrelated jokes. sometimes his material has shock value too, but it is always good and seems well thought through, while she just throws her "punchlines" out there. she's not even going for laughs, she's going for "Aws" of disgust. if you just want to provoke people, you could as well get on stage and just say the names of controversial topics, you know? like running up and just shouting "health care", "abortions", "creationism".
before i get too off-topic: i think she is unfunny because her material lacks the cleverness, all the other comedians seem to have. but that also comes with all the repetitiveness. the first time i saw her (probably the p. anderson roast), i found one or two lines a little amusing, but then the same stuff all over again the next year? completely unnecessary.
