India?
For anyone who has actually lived in India - how realistic is the film in terms of the Indian 'background?'

shareBy "background" do you mean setting?
I haven't lived there, but I've traveled there many times and I feel the film does quite a good job of capturing the real India (and Jaipur specifically). It was obviously shot on location, and also they used many locals as extras.
I don't watch Bollywood films regularly, but the few times I did I was struck by how unlike the real India they look. They close off their sets and rarely show the masses of people and/or vehicular traffic one sees in India!
yes - the whole gestalt of the environment
I'm located next to an Indian Travel Agency for many years and have fairly good tangential knowledge - but the sheer mass, noise, etc. is unknown - at least to a degree - been in Lagos, Cairo, Taipei, HK, Tokyo - and from NY - so can extrapolate to a certain level I imagine.
To me - the film seemed to be 'getting it.'
It is quite realistic...
shareI am from India and I was a bit skeptical about the portrayal of India in the film, which I thought was going to be too 'touristy'. But it was accurate, and the film had a very affectionate attitude towards India :) Jaipur was absolutely spot on, however, you can also find a lot of peace and quiet in India. Do visit soon!
