the POST YOUR AGE thread :)

So I'll start.
I saw this film (which was generally portrayed as "with old people for old people") and thoroughly enjoyed it. I liked the humour, indian culture, portrayal of the elderly, sense of optimism etc. Had its faults obviously, but I thought it surpassed average films.

Anyway, this thread is for posting your age alongside your rating:

16 - 7.5/10

Won't watch again however, as I feel theres little to gain from rewatching this type of film. It will however remain in my memory as the entertainment it was.

I enjoyed it a lot, but it was just a bit too mushy and feel-good, and could have had more depth. As my friend said at the end, "It's all pure fantasy, of course. None of them have arthritis, except the one who gets a miracle cure with one simple operation."

29-8/10 enjoyed it mostly because all the actors in it are so good.

I loved it!!! Allright it won't probably win any awards but I think its a film that makes you think and question your views and how you percieve things within the world and that life doesn't stop at 60 years old - you can find love and form friendships and relationships with new people. You don't just suddenly shrivel up and die.
I watched in the cinema four times and have bought the dvd which I loved and have bought the soundtrack just because the cinematography is excellent and beautiful.

I like the movie but it was obviously made for Western audiences. The cliche to romanticize spirtual India and it's simplistic nature. India is dirty, hot, crowded, loud, and in your face. And I am not listing those as bad qualities but that's the reality and didn't see much of that in the movie. Actually I didn't see much of Jaipur either except for a few exterior shots. This was a dry, quiet clean attempt to make people feel good about trying new things no matter what age. Nice but not enlightening.

I enjoyed it, mainly for the excellent performances by some of my favorites and the relatable conflicts. I do agree, however, with most of the shortcomings that others have pointed out.

I know what you're thinking: "Who cares?"

I enjoy this film so much, probably it's also because I have fondness with people at certain age, and it's also because my parents are at the same age as the actors in the film. Other than starred by my favorite actors (actually, all of them are my favorite actors) it makes me realize that no matter how old these people are that doesn't mean we just throw them away or not involved with their lives anymore, I do care for my parents and I won't treat them like what Madge's or the Ainslie's children did to them (or Judi's son in the film). It's like these parents raised us and we give them nothing in return.

I do believe taking care of parents in their retirement doesn't mean just financially, but also emotional support. I know the story is kind of cliche but compared to the rest of the blockbusters around I enjoyed Marigold Hotel more than Battleship. This film is probably one of the best feel-good movie of the year...
