I thought the film was very well done, and adequately performed, except....

What was the deal with Karen Black's character? To say that her part was tertiary is a complete understatement.

Was her role supposed to be reminiscent of Bela Lugosi's in "Plan 9 From Outer Space" ??

She's really too good an actress to waste in such a ridiculous story arc. She should have been the Amazon guard, an inmate, or at the very least, the warden.

Yes that is exactly what she was there for. Top bill and you see the other names and think "I've heard of her". Yup, she was your waitress last week.

The only difference is that Ms Black didn't die.
