Accents

Okay, first off, I am English, not an American trying to take the piss out of our accent.

Where to start, I hate to be harsh, but I will never watch this film again, not because of the film itself, but for the absolute poor and dire accents that I think everyone except the father (RIP died a few days ago) has in this film.

It is the most cringeful thing i've had to put up with in a long time. I honestly don't know who pissed me off more, Stephen who was just a complete twat with an annoying accent, Joe who was a complete *beep* wimp with an annoying accent the main girl, jeez she put the others to shame.

Apart from that, the film is average, just seemed like all the actors were very awkward during filming (probably because of the accents)

Anyone else think the same, or am I just being a picky commoner towards our posh upper class twats.

I thought they were a bit "OK ya" but to be honest I let them off and as a result I found the film enjoyable. I gave it a commendable 6/10 - as you say, mainly due to the hammy acting, but no less than expected from a low budget Britflick ... reminded me of Hammer

I don't know what it is, but its weird and pissed off!

First off, you are a stupid doosh. Who really cares about the accents? Do you really listen to the authenticity of the accents of the movie you are watching, rather than watch the movie?

To everyone else: This was a great movie, but a let down after Dog Soldiers.

reply

What a stupid thing to say. Anything that 'takes you out of the movie' as a distraction is obviously bad

reply

Only an idiot or an American would use the word 'doosh'. Shame!

reply

And they prove it by spelling it wrong. lol.

reply

But they back themselves up by using Dog Soldiers as reference. Jog on, internet Grammar police.

I think part of the deal here mate is that folk like seeing the Posh in dire needs.

I just checked the trailer to see what you meant, but nobody talks in it!!

No difference to the accents here than to say some of the accents in the Harry Potter films and nothing really gets brought up about those!!! Strange.

I only axed ya for a smoke - Jack Frost

The characters who spoke with the plums-in-mouth accents didn't really distract me from the film as it was a case of toffs playing toffs in a big toff house, rather than an accent that is clearly either put on or out of place.

LOL I'm watching it on the Horror channel and this is the first thing I thought, after about ten minutes. I could almost get on board with the plumminess of the cast, given the stately home setting, but it just serves as a reminder of everything which is wrong about British film: it is an industry largely populated by toffs - the only people who have the time and money to piss up the wall making subpar movies like this.

Of course, they are loathe to show upper class people in a bad light and are often at pains to portray them as just like everyone else. Nothing wrong with that per se but ot overlooks the fact that THESE ARE STORIES! Sometimes we want broad brushstrokes, so fine: let Charles II's direct descendent play a wholly sympathetic character (I'm an hour into the film and she's done pretty well so far), but then also give us a nasty, conceited, self-centred prick who has no sense of how reality works for the majority. Give him some kind of notable quirk -like, he has a vast collection of pristine baseball caps or something. It's called characterisation! Ooh, there was just a line from the token northerner about Sarah getting work through her mummy's contacts! But this is the point - at this stage we aren't going to hate Sarah for that because she has otherwise acted commendably.

Guy Ritchie was a total posho, but at least he tried to represent other areas of society, and poke a bit of fun at the stereotypical public schoolboy type. He just wasn't talented enough to continue to produce interesting ideas after his first couple of flicks, sadly.

I no what you mean you can tell how different our accents are yo the Americans but they are all English actors so is there real voice but yes we do sound so posh in these films.
