Its NOT what Calvin says, it's HOW he says it

And his accent has a lot to do with it. The cadence he talks with seems very threatening and I think his teammates don't even give him a chance to finish. I know he has an attitude problem but it might be frustration over people not understanding him. To me he's the most talented on the team but the rest of the house are so quick to shut him down.

If they just ltet him finish his proposal they could have gone to something else but interrupting him and arguing just ate up time and the sheer gauze on the models face looked really stupid and didn't correspond well to the picture they could have made hats with the same veiny detail.

People who speak tonal Asian languages like Vietnamese and Chinese often come across sounding angry to those who don't speak the language. Some of my Chinese coworkers sound like they're having an argument when they're really just chit-chatting. Translate that cadence into English, and yeah, sometimes they sound harsh and blunt.

I'm Vietnamese, and Calvin sounds like a young, gay version of my dad.

I think you guys are being waaay to generous which is awfully commendable.

However, accent/language barrier/ESL aside Calvin is plain and simply an egomaniacal prick.

He didn't so much as offer a proposal to his teammates as rather tell them what they were going to do. Some dress with a long chiffony train and a nuclear explosion??? WTF???

Oh he definitely has an attitude problem but I don't think ALL of the confrontations are his fault just people taking offense to what they perceive as an attitude.

It think all the confrontations are his fault indirectly. Everyone has had an opportunity to get a peek into his personality and attitude so they're already on the defense.

He clearly wants to be the team leader but has zero leadership or people skills. Calvin wants to bully and boss everyone around and expect them to do what he says. When someone offers a difference of opinion he shoots them down, tells them they're losers, tells them to shut up, or starts shouting expletives. When that doesn't cause them back down then he's all "I'm going to do what I want to do."

I mean, when the judges even call you out on your behavior and attitude that's a problem.

No argument from me there! I think it's both what he says AND how he says it.

They might understand him better if he'd shut up for a second and let them ask him a question ... and listen to the question. If somebody says "where does a bomb exploding fit in?" she means in the concept. When asked that, Calvin screamed something like "IN THE BACKGROUND ON THE SCREEN, I TOLD YOU!!!!!" Calvin won't let anybody else talk (and by the way, a post-apocalyptic runway show is a cliche by now).

Gotta agree 100% with Duc here. His ideas may not be bad. His designs may not be bad. He just wont let someone get something else in edgewise - nor does he care to listen to the question. How he talks does not bother me, it's all in his quest to be a leader. He is - or comes across as - condescending, broken English or not.

He wants to be the leader - but - let me backtrack on that one for a second. As someone who has several shops, why the heck is he even ON this program? He will come in with the attitude of "running things" because....he runs things!!! I've worked with many people like this who were Managers, Directors, etc. for years -- and then bfor whatever reason, they accept a position that is no longer of that caliber/level and still act as if they are a manager/Director, Owner, etc. It's HARD to go backwards.

What people need to know is that people such as Calvin will not change. If you hire an ex-manager into a secretarial position thinking that that person will be like a secretary; the situation is in for a world of trouble. Either your company is lying about what the job really entails (for example telling them they will be a manager/director soon in that position) or the seeker is diluting themselves thinking they can become a team member -- with no voice. Calvin is that. He's not working with his peers per ce. He kinda knows he's not, but cannot tone down what he knows, and how he manages. That is a difficult position to accept among amateurs and semi-pros even if the contest makes you a "winner". Calvin is looking at "the winner" thing. Wrong!

Bottom line: He needs to go as this is not a good fit for him.
