They might understand him better if he'd shut up for a second and let them ask him a question ... and listen to the question...
Gotta agree 100% with Duc here. His ideas may not be bad. His designs may not be bad. He just wont let someone get something else in edgewise - nor does he care to listen to the question. How he talks does not bother me, it's all in his quest to be a leader. He is - or comes across as - condescending, broken English or not.
He wants to be the leader - but - let me backtrack on that one for a second. As someone who has several shops, why the heck is he even ON this program? He will come in with the attitude of "running things" because....he runs things!!! I've worked with many people like this who were Managers, Directors, etc. for years -- and then bfor whatever reason, they accept a position that is no longer of that caliber/level and still act as if they are a manager/Director, Owner, etc. It's HARD to go backwards.
What people need to know is that people such as Calvin will not change. If you hire an ex-manager into a secretarial position thinking that that person will be like a secretary; the situation is in for a world of trouble. Either your company is lying about what the job really entails (for example telling them they will be a manager/director soon in that position) or the seeker is diluting themselves thinking they can become a team member -- with no voice. Calvin is that. He's not working with his peers per ce. He kinda knows he's not, but cannot tone down what he knows, and how he manages. That is a difficult position to accept among amateurs and semi-pros even if the contest makes you a "winner". Calvin is looking at "the winner" thing. Wrong!
Bottom line: He needs to go as this is not a good fit for him.
