Interview with Stacey's ex-husband from Inside Edition

She's the alluring star of TV Land's hit reality show, The Cougar. Stacey Anderson, a 40-year-old stunner, is hunting for love in the arms of hunky young men half her age.

But the reality show is not all fun and games. INSIDE EDITION went to the home of "The Cougar's" ex-husband, who says she left him and their three kids. He also says the Anderson is not the catch she's made out to be.

"When she first decided to leave, it was pretty devastating," says Steve Anderson, Stacey's ex-husband. "I tried everything I could to get her to stay."

Anderson is speaking exclusively to INSIDE EDITION about what it was like being married to "The Cougar."

Stacey was a pretty brunette when the couple wed in 1992. They had three children together.

"There were some good times in there," Anderson admits.

But like the woman portrayed on TV, Anderson says Stacey preferred night clubs and young men in real life. He says they drifted apart and their 10-year marriage ended in divorce.

According to allegations contained in court papers Anderson filed in 2005, Stacey suffered from

alcoholism and substance abuse.

"Did she cheat?" asks INSIDE EDITION's Megan Alexander.
Anderson says, "No comment."

Anderson says he got full custody of the couple's three children and raised them in Utah. He also helped raise Stacey's 23-year-old daughter from a previous marriage...the daughter that is older than some of the men Stacey is dating on the show.

But Anderson says he was positively stunned after seeing his ex-wife boast of being a millionaire real estate agent.

"She was portraying herself as being this very busy mom and making millions of dollars, I was shocked...That's the reason I decided to talk about this. She still refuses to pay the back two years of child support she owes, plus medical bills. It's a pretty big tab," Anderson tells INSIDE EDITION.

He says by his calculation, she owes him $30,000. But he says most painful of all is watching her portrayed as a doting mom.

"Right now, how often would you say she sees her kids?" asks Alexander.
"There are definitely years that it's 3, maybe 4 days out of the year," Alexander says.

The musician and independent filmmaker is now happily re-married to a striking blonde who looks a lot like Stacey! Steve Anderson hopes his ex finds love too, but he has this message for whoever wins The Cougar: "They're going to inherit someone with four kids who owes a ton of back child support...and they'll wake up and say 'Whoa, what did I win?' "

Mr. Anderson says he's seen the fancy house Stacey lives in on the show, but as far as he knows, before The Cougar began she lived in a one-bedroom apartment.

Wow. Proves once again that we shouldn't believe everything we see. When it comes to reality shows, 9 times out of 10 at least 95% of what is said or portrayed is a whole lot of BS!

First, I'm not surprised of her husband's comments - granted, there are two sides to every divorce, but if the court awarded full custody to the husband (a rare event), that speaks a great deal of the mother's situation...

Like many, I've only seen the commercials for this show (even though I'm regularly in TVLand - LOL), but I did see the commercial for the "controversial episode" (I thought the entire series was controversial, but, that's another topic), and the mother of one of the boys (since most are just out of their teens) saying that all she wanted to do was to take him by the hand and go home - so true...

Stacey is a troubled soul (perhaps abused when she was young), looking for yet another man to fill the gaps in her life, but that type of person is best being by herself, since she already has enough trouble just keeping her own life in order - I've known several "Staceys" who go from one man to another, saying that each one is "the answer", but the answer they really need is to ask God to stabilize their own life before it spirals out of control any further...

Shame on MTV (owner/operator of TVLand) for trying to increase viewership this way - let's hope this is the first and last of the "cougar" series...

I happened to be watching Bonanza this morning when an ad was shown for the thankfully-final episode of this sorry reality program, and it really bothered me to see this woman's children -- some in their teens -- asking a man (who appears to be only 10 years older than they) if he is ready to be their father!!!

Boycott this program (by it's dismal 1.6 imdb.com user rating, I'd say there aren't many viewers left for a boycott, but that's another issue)!!!

What a terrible program - a reality show at it's lowest...

Stacey is a sad person. Here she is, week after week, talking about honesty. She says how important the children are yada yada! These guys aren't ready to parent her children. Thankfully they have what sounds like a good father already.

reply

Yes, for sure, since he's even raising the child from her first marriage, but I felt more sorry for her children - having been a child once myself (lol), it must be terrible for children to have to "interview" a total stranger for the role of their parent...

My own hope, as you said, is that their REAL Dad will continue to raise her children - and forget anyone that comes their way from this program...

The problem is that this is not a fictional show, but, is as they say "reality", so what is shown to the public is often how the public reacts, since it's common knowledge that what the public often sees on television, it copies in real life - moreso with a reality program since it's considered "how life is lived"...

So, there can be no chilling out when it comes to being critical of a reality show of this kind - it's a terrible example for everyone - especially those too young to know right from wrong - but think what they are seeing is morally how they (or their parents) should live - it isn't...

That's the problem with today's world - everything that is wrong and is acknowledged as being wrong is met with:

Chill out, get real, get a grip, so what, who cares, etc...

There are too many souls in hell at this moment who lived by that way of thinking - that'll get people down there, that's for sure...

The sad thing is that a show like Leave it to Beaver, which even kids of today still admit to liking because of it's simple message of doing what's right and good, is now banished to the TVLand web site for being "too good" - perhaps it should be the other way around when it comes to this morally corrupt reality program...
