Raven's Corner: Consumer Alert

RavenGlamDVDCollector has many fish to fry and stacks of DVDs to watch, so when I obtained my set for this movie in November 2013, it just went onto the pile. Only came to it in August. Huge was my dismay upon opening (that is: after tearing off the cellophane) that the Security Device (prevalent in most American sets) had become stuck to the disc, rendering the disc useless (after removal there was kind of a 'hole' on the disc) and my invoice for the purchase was long gone, meaning I could not return it. On 22 August I submitted 'The Darkest of Tails', a somber little essay relating my experience, my opinion that shop-owners would do anything as long as they just protected themselves regardless of the consumer, and that these callously inserted little horrors should be abolished. I'll admit that I addressed my review to 'Mr. Moronic Shop-Owner' and that I suggested that the quest for Dollars overrode their responsibility to the public. Ineffectual choice of word. Kinda too good at being a well-fed cat to be 'moronic', I meant MYOPIC, in the sense of EYE ONLY ON ONE GOAL that is Profit, Damned be the Cost to the Consumer! I'll deface those silly little boxes as long as I get all my Dollars! $$$$$ rule, customers drool!

So, Mister Myopic Shop-Owner, or a friend of his, saw my effort and reported it as abuse. I fail to see that it was such, besides one hastily-picked word that I of course retract.

P.S. Now have replacement on order. Damned, damned expensive set, mind you. Hundreds of bucks in local money. Enough for a picnic at Kentucky Fried Chicken... Twice! So, if this second set turns out to be similarly ruined, I promise to take out a full-page ad in the National Enquirer and the Wall Street Gazette and let's see you delete that, Mr. Myopic Shop-Owner.

Combat the shoplifters in more responsible ways. Display your wares behind counters, AND SIMPLY JUST HAVE HUGE POSTERS ADVERTISING THE PRODUCT. Customers need not handle the product pre-payment.

Update, 21 October 2014. Received my replacement yesterday. Looks fine. Will be watched Sunday afternoon. Expect review by evening, or on Monday. I do understand movie is B-A-D, but just glad I can finally see it. Yeah, this time the nasty ol' security device was firmly glued in place nestling inside the box like a creepy spider but out of harm's way. Do check up on these critters immediately , people, the drones packing them can get sloppy!
