Yes, yes- I Know the special fx are "better" today. But fx not withstanding, the original is one of my favorite childhood films. AND it had Doug McClure & Susan Penhaligon.

To say this one doesn't come close would be a sad understatement.

Try reading the books, the Doug McClure version stinks too.

But this remake stinks worse. And I'd say that the buildup to the arrival at monster isle was much better in the 1975 film. McClure catching the first glimpse of a sea monster through the submarine periscope was actually damned cool.
