So was there really an antivirus, or was it just spoken via the CB to get the people out if the house so they could shoot them, ending the possible spread of the disease?

The way it ended, I would say there was not an antivirus. I think Jack told the truth when he said something like, "There is no antivirus they just want to kill us."

What I want to know is, How did Kate not hear the helicopter?

While Jack's paranoid belief that there was no antivirus turned out to be true, how could he have known if there was one, or not?

As for Kate's not hearing (?) the helicopter, a) the surf was loud? b) they'd been hearing planes for days, and she just dismissed it; c) she figured it was help arriving, but didn't care enough to look; d) she heard it and realized Jack had been right, but, again, didn't really care; e) the music was pretty loud at that point. ; )
