So what exactly is going on with Kyle? When I read a plot discription for it in a magazine before it was on TV, it said "Richard Fleeshman plays a medically retarded boy with an obsession for Blink 182"... Now the Blink 182 thing isn't really accurate, it's more just Tom. But Then I read in a review the other week with someone descibing his character with a serious mental illness. I don't really understand what medically retarded means, but is it a mental illness?
From last nights episode when Layla called him wierd, Michael didn't fend for his son by saying he had anything medically/mentally wrong with him.

But he is such a sweet character! I love Richard playing him.

I think he is autistic, but they never actually say what mental condition he has.

I'm pretty sure he's somewhere on the autistic spectrum, but they have resisted labelling him as such. Michael was most emphatic about him just being "different" wasn't he?

Oh, I never thought about that. I'm don't really know that much about it all, but I at first thought it could be aspergous (Sorry for the spelling) because his brother commented that he wasn't aware of how to handle social situations (he just says what is on his mind) but I don't know really.

I think he is autistic although Michael didnt actually say that in last nights episode. Richard Fleeshman was actually on the Paul O'Grady show on the Tuesday the program started and he did say that Kyle was a bit autistic and different from how others act.

Aspergers is on the autistic spectrum so quite possibly.

I quite like that they didn't make a massive deal out of it though - especially as loads of people with Aspergers are undiagnosed, and just a little bit "unusual".
