Buu saga dub announced!

This is probably old news for alot of you, but still great nonetheless!

I went to a Convention in February, i asked Chris Sabat about the status of the Buu saga. He said something along the lines of

"We've been getting materials/animation of the Buu saga from Japan, & we're in the process of trying to get the cast back to dub it, which is our biggest concern, since alot of the actors from the Buu saga no longer live in the area."

The bad thing is, the actors have to fly out on their own dime, so i don't know how willing they would be to come back. I know it was extremely last second that Dameon Clarke(Cell) decided to come back.

The actors he is talking about are
- Sean Schemmel(Goku) who lives in NY, but did come back for Kai. Sean has stated he would never dissapoint the fans & would come back every time he's asked to reprise Goku.

- Kyle Hebert(Gohan/Pikkon) who now lives in LA, he came back briefly for Kai to play Ox king, but Gohan would be a MUCH more schedule demanding role.

- Laura Bailey(Kid Trunks) - Moved out to LA last i heard, doesn't work for FUNi anymore, gave up her role as Dende in the Frieza saga. Hopefully she doesn't give Trunks up too.

- Kara Edwards(Goten) - Don't know where she moved, might be LA, but she recently moved back to TX, which is great!

I don't mind re-casts. As long as none of the characters change mid-series, i'll be happy.

I didn't really like the Buu saga but I'll be interested to give Kai's version a try, provided that they cut it waaaaay down.

Yeah, the Buu saga went on a little bit too long. By the time Kid Buu came along, I had practically stopped caring.

So any developments on this? Is it still happening?

reply

I haven't heard anything new lately, unfortunately. FUNimation seems to work pretty slowly these days, hopefully a cash cow like DBZ will get them moving a bit faster.

I think they're going to air the Buu Saga on Cartoon Network, or at least that's the rumor I've heard. Is it safe to assume we won't be getting DVDs until after it airs on TV? Because that would suck.

Now that the Buu saga is already on TV in Japan are there any developments about the English dub? I've heard a lot of people say there won't be any. That sucks.

reply

Sorry, I totally forgot about this post lol. It's STILL happening. FUNimation never got the go ahead to announce they were working on it and the fact that they were was leaked due to a few of the voice actors believing they could talk about it.

I have talked to a few voice actors in the past year of whom I'm close to (I'm not saying who because it could get them in trouble), but in August of last year they had already dubbed through the stages of Babadi's ship and were right around the stuff with the Goku/Vegeta fight and Dabura being eaten etc. As of about 2 months ago, they had already dubbed past the Super Saiyan 3 point of the series. The most recent update I got was that a large chunk of the actors are completely done recording, it's just a matter of finishing the out of state actors like Hebert, Bailey, and Schemmel.

I will say that Sabat told me that he couldn't remember the exact number but the entire Buu arc will be in the neighborhood of 67 episodes, give or take one or two.

Have you heard anything about the dub recently?

I just finished the entire DBZK series and planned to move on to the 2014 version because I was under the impression it was at least partially done... Only to see there are no episodes available, not even a freakin announcement a year later.

I'm very anxious to see what Kai does with the Buu Saga, especially since the original contains some of my least favorite fillers in the series (Great Saiyaman/Videl, etc.).

reply

They've been completely done with the dub for months now. It's in the can. Toei is honestly probably holding up the release since Super has kind of stepped all over Kai's public interest.

I badly want all of Kai released dubbed in the US.

After much deliberation, I finally decided that the version of Z I'll have on Blu Ray in my collection will be Kai, and not the original Z. I'll miss the Faulconer music and the less-toned down moments of violence...but everything else that Kai does better than Z makes that worth it.

I would just like to know that ALL of Kai will eventually be released dubbed in the states...and that it won't just stop at Season 4.

Three years later.... no movement.

Kyle returned for the movies and Xenoverse so I doubt he was recast and Laura was in Xenoverse as well and reprise her role as Maka in Soul Eater Not(2014),I am sure she made time for Kai

Kai's dub might already be done, maybe they are waiting for it to air on Toonami and then they'll do a release
