The soundtrack to DBKai (US)

I love the visuals of Kai, the pacing is excellent also. However the soundtrack still lets me down, I'm a few episodes into the Saijin part of the series (english dub) and I'm missing the Falconer produced music. Is there any word on whether the classic DBZ music tracks will be used later in the series or future release of Kai.

Because everyone remembers the tune when Goku went SSJ, When Vegeta Powered up, When Cell first appeared, When trunks fought the androids in the future.

all really complimented the series brilliantly.

If Kai had this it'd be the perfect DBZ vision, in my opinion at least.

I have to agree with you 100% on that accessment. I loved the original opening also. But the pacing of kai so far is making up for it.

Yeah, I'm really missing Rock the Dragon and the other hard rock themes. A lot of the in show music sounds a bit corny too.

reply

The rock the dragon was only in the ocean dub, not the funi.

Though to be honest, my fondest memories of the saijin saga are from the Ocean dub. Funimation dub after that though :)

Aren't they just using the REAL music from the cartoon instead of making their own? The opening song sure sounds like a Japanese shounen song to me. Why would you want to hear the fake DBZ music anyway? The voice-work is bad enough (Freeza is a chick?!?) without having to hear Funimation's idea of what DBZ should sound like.
.
And it's "Saiyajin".

Because the japanese version sucks to americans and the american version was far better to our ears.

Americans in general prefer the American style of music more then that of the Japanese style. But again the style is pretty 80's. This is certainly not the music of even current anime.

reply

I'm not American but I think the Bruce Falconer music was infinitely better suited to todays audiences.

reply

No it's a completely new score

reply

I know what you mean the music is just not the same. That's the only thing I dislike about Dragonballz Kai.

I like Kai's soundtrack. It doesn't sound dated at all—just orchestrated instead. Plus it has a few rock and even a techno themes. It's pretty good.

To me Faulconer's soundtrack sounds synthy and 80s. I don't really hear it as "modern". But I like it. Faulconer has done some memorable stuff, but I don't elevate it to "DBZ must only be watched with this music."

Ultimately, Kai is a different interpretation of DBZ. It's not surprising they put different music to it. The English-speaking world (US/UK/AUS) imagined DBZ differently than the rest of the world. American DBZ is made to be less melodramatic, less comedic and more mean to be a straight-ahead action show.

I love Faulconer's music, I cannot watch DBZ without Faulconer's music. 'Vegeta's super saiyan theme' is the definition of greatness. It fit the original moment perfectly, and when it shows up again when Vegeta helps Gohan defeat Cell...it works even more amazingly.

But from clips and etc I've seen, the new music done for Kai is pretty damn cool, definitely much much better than the original Japanese music for Z.

I die a little inside everytime I hear the intro for Kai. Also, does it bug anyone else that they changed "Spirit Bomb" to "Spirit Blast?"

reply

The music in Kai is terrible compared to Z and the visuals are not noticeably different unless you are watching both side by side and even then it's just some colour palette changes.

They remove the Garlic Jr saga which isn't that long and I somewhat enjoyed it anyway.

All in all Kai is worse than Z in my opinion...

Most Dubs these days keep the music from the original Japanese version. I love Kai's Dub and the music even Sean Schemmel singing Dragon Soul and Jerry Jewell singing the ending theme.
I prefer the actual soundtrack, maybe as Kid rock the Dragon was fine to me,but now though I don't like a song that just repeats the name of the Show for 1 min straight

DBZKai has a Better Soundtrack than the Funimation 99 Dub&the Late Ocean Dub

Speaking of which, i Hated the Late Ocean Dub's Theme Song that just repeats the name of the Show Over and Over Again
Its Even Worse than the Amazing Spiez Theme Song

Dragon Soul is a Million Times Better than Rock the Dragon

DBZ Is not a Kids Show

I know its not a kid show, but like lots of anime back then the companies were trying to make it seem like a kids show which was dumb

Fine as a Kid, hated it now as an adult
What a lame Logic

Not really lame logic,I was a kid at the time, but hearing it as an Adult I don't like it, if I did it would likely be nostalgia.I love Kai's music
