The pro's and con's of Dragon Ball Z Kai

Kai -

Pros -

- It's simply better in the way that it is paced and the way it keeps your interest. The original DBZ often left you cringing out how terrible the filler was at times.

- The dialog is far better written, and takes out most of the cringeworthingly bad written lines. There's far more along the lines of Vegeta's "he's stolen my honor" speech in the original.

- The voice acting draws you in a lot more than the originals. There's obviously some DBZ cheese in there, but I like that. I really enjoyed Frieza's voice in this one. He felt a lot more interesting and intimidating rather than the Transvestite sounding performance in the last dub.

- There's a good balance between cheese and seriousness. You can appreciate that cheesyness but not be cringing at it and you actually take this series a lot more seriously. I've even managed to persuade some people who hated this series before to watch it and they liked it.

- They did a far better job at telling a story and making the experience feel like less of kids TV show and more of an epic tale.

Cons -

- Gohans voice in the first saga. It was just awful. I really hate the fact that they couldn't just hire a real child actor instead of just making a woman put on a babies voice. It kind of messed up parts for me, but it didn't bring down the whole show.

- The remastering of the picture was terribly done at times, like it had been coloured in by a child, and it really didn't add to the experience. Again, it didn't ruin anything for me, but they really should have just left the picture quality as it was, with maybe a few tweeks but they shouldn't have painted over it.

Completely disagree. Colleen Clinkenbeard is not only of the best cast voices in Kai but she also gives among the best performances in the whole dub. You're completely mistaken on that one. The real awful recasting is Monica Rial as Bulma. Awful, just awful.

An actual con of the Kai dub is that they still decided to stick to the inaccurate names of some of the characters and terms when they had every opportunity of correcting it. So instead of Tenshinhan, it's still Tien (which was never his name). Instead of Yamucha, it's still Yamcha. Instead of Shenlong it's Shenron (which was based on a mistranslation). Also related, is that in the Resurrection F movie they sadly decided to drop the actual Japanese names of the moves that were thankfully doing in Kai and go with the cringe-worthy Saban/Ocean silly names (instead of "Kienzan" it's "Destructo Disc" ).

I also don't agree with you on the colors. That was a very welcome upgrade. The Kai Buu saga looks terrible by comparison and the reason that is is because Toei didn't spend anywhere near the amount of money that they did on the first part of Kai.

In my opinion, I the old colours are the best.

I just think a remaster takes the character from it.

All they needed to do is re-do the dialogue and cut the filler.

Still though, regardless of how we disagree on the colours, I don't see the point in it if they are going to remasters some shots and leave the rest as it was. It makes no sense.

On Gohans voice - Sorry, but Baby Gohan's voice was really cringeworthy in my opinion.

Agree to disagree. I really like Gohan's voice when he grows up a little though.
