Name Change (Memphis Beat)

Title says it all. The commercial only said "[T]his Summer," so still no date.

Anyone notice that they filmed in New Orleans? Why not in the city of the title?

reply

Louisiana tax rebates make shooting there much cheaper than other states. The state offers this incentive to attract productions to their cities.

reply

Yeah tax incentives here in Tennessee aren't that great.. you know they shot The Blindside (based in Memphis) in Atlanta.. Lame.

reply

Georgia also has tax incentives if you film there.

New Orleans also has developed an infrastructure of sound stages, production and post-production facilities and a large group of professionals and service companies to staff these productions.

Premiers on June 23rd.

I recently read something that said that it was being filmed in Memphis. Anyone know anything about it? I take it with a grain of salt, as it was said by a local TV critic in the paper.

reply

Yes, take it with a grain of salt because the series is being shot in the Metro New Orleans,LA. area. I know this is a fact because Im an extra on this set.

reply

I will at least watch the first episode to see if it is any good. But if I don't see any Memphis in it at all, that will be the last episode that I'll watch.

reply

I agree. I expected it to be filmed in Memphis. New Orleans does not look like Memphis. I watch "Policewomen of Memphis" on TLC because it is filmed in Memphis.

Beats Vancouver.

Don't blame this show or its creators for it not being filmed truly in Memphis.

Blame Memphis since they didn't want (or were asking for too much) to have the show filmed there. And Memphis Beat and Memphis aren't the first show and first city to try to "fool" the TV audiences (if you can call it fooling...most show creators of shows don't think the audience is that anal retentive). Northern Exposure, 21 Jump Street, Law & Order (with some shots), and plenty of other shows have done this for decades..

reply

Exactly. I'm getting pretty tired of people complaining about it not being actually filmed in the area the story says it takes place. I can understand people who are from the area having higher hopes of their hometown being shown and then disappointed but it really does not matter. I've seen the first episode and love it already. Fingers crossed they actually last one or even five seasons.
