Memphis Beat or Justified?

Memphis Beat or Justified?

The set-up for both shows are quite similar. New detective comes to small town, starring a familiar face in a new type role, locale becomes a character of it's own, country feeling and so-on.

Any opinions?

I'm going with Justified. Much more brooding tension.

I like both shows but to differentiate them, you'd have to compare the leads and as much as I like Jason Lee from the Kevin Smith films and My Name Is Earl, Timothy Olyphant is a far superior actor.

For example, when Dwight's angry with you, I guess you'd feel guilty but when Raylan's angry with you, you're fearing for your life. I just don't think Jason Lee could ever be as intense and brooding as Timothy Olyphant has done so effortlessly in Deadwood and Justified.

So if I had to choose, Justified.

Did you see Olyphant in The Girl Next Door[2004]? Talk about deceptively dangerous. Acting his balls off too.

Two different shows (with a different premise, I might add: Dwight never ran away from Memphis while Raylan ran as far as he could from Kentucky). Different ways of going about things, but both are good lawmen. I like them both.

I like Memphis Beat but in no way does it compare with Justified. Memphis Beat is a cute little lighthearted story about a cop with quirks. Justified is nothing less than brilliant. Between Timothy as Raylan and Walton Goggins as Boyd Crowder
not only do you have a smorgasbord of sexy, scrumptious, intense men you also have 2 incredible actors going toe to toe.

The finale of this season's justified was jaw dropping. Add Margo Martindale to the mix with her fantastic portrayal of Mags and by God I think that was the most powerful hour of TV I have ever seen. Months later I still tear up remembering Eva being shot, Loretta's despair over her father's being murdered or the panic I felt the split second before Tim shot Doyle between the eyes.

For me Memphis Beat is like a Harlequin novel. I read it in a half hour and then a half hour later I have completely forgotten the plot. Justified is the Brothers Karamozov of a televised version of a modern day gunslinger.

Mags scared the hell out of me.

All rain dances are appreciated.

Ditto on axself comment.

I don't consider the two series to be that similar. 'Justified' has many more characters with intersecting plots. More drinking, that's for sure. Not much music (although the theme at the beginning is kickin') and much more sexual tension. I like both for different reasons.

reply

Justified, hands down.

If someone tries to kill you, you try to kill them right back!

Justified is far superior because of Timothy Olyphant, he is like Clint Eastwood of modern TV, I like Jason Lee too much as well, but he cant match blades with Timothy.
