Unlv those 90 teams/ hoya paranoia/ the 95 nebraska/ and the houston rocket back to back champs anyone agree?
shareI'd like to see something on those 2 seasons of UNLV basketball, mostly because, at the time, they were being touted as the greatest team(s) ever, but lately (not that these lists really matter) it seems, just because they didn't finish out 1991-92 undefeated - which took a perfect game from Duke, which they won by 2 - they've kinda been forgotten. I keep seeing, for example, the (admittedly) great 96 Kentucky team ranked ahead of even the 1989-90 UNLV team... IDK, seems crazy to me.
In '91 it took what we now know as one of the greatest clutch teams ever (Laettner, Hurley, G. Hill) and arguably the 2nd-greatest coach ever, at their absolute peak, with the advantage of having been blown out by them the year before (revenge, just having seen them at/near the end of tourney 2 years in a row) to defeat them. And they already had an easily-won title under their belts.
I'm no expert but I can't see anybody but the Alcindor-led UCLA team that beat Houston ahead of those UNLV teams.
