Why does everybody in the movies live in enormous downtown lofts?

I mean really. High ceilings. Multi-storey. Tons o' space. Wall-sized abstract expressionist paintings on the wall. Life is good.

What do their characters supposedly do for a living? Oh, right: part-time security guard at a high school, who happens to be living with a supermodel.

I can suspend my disbelief for everything else, but this is where I draw the line.

Lots of room for filming equipment?

well it is a make believe movie

kevin hart on the security salary should be living in a basement studio

I thought the exact same thing whilst watching this last night ! But that's the movies I guess .

You nailed it, teaguetod.

Why was someone like Angela Payton with someone like Ben Barber? To say she could do better than that boy man is an understatement of the decade. I guess it was all about the chemistry.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

They live in a suburban single-family home with two stories, not in a downtown loft.

As for other movies, they are usually set in places like New York, Los Angeles or Chicago where loft housing IS The most common kind of housing. The average American lives in a suburban house though.

This isn't NYC real estate. A loft in ATL is fairly inexpensive.

It looks like the set of "The New Girl"

I always wonder about things like that in movies and shows.

Like in Sex and the City how Carrie, who does nothing but write and article once a week can afford a $5,000+ a week condo in NY plus pay hundreds for shoes on top of eating out all the time and always riding a cab to and from different night clubs where she manages to pay a lot of drinks before heading out to go shopping with her gal friends and pay her bills.

Or, how in "She's All That" Janie's family is poor, yet, despite her semi-old looking truck that her dad gave her, they have a rich vehicle with a house with a garage and a bedroom for both kids plus the father and an in-ground pool.

Hollywood is never gonna get realistic..
