Please someone explain the ending to me? SPOILERS

DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE!

Ending:
Cheng finally gets the flat. On the news she hears that there is a global recession which is affecting property markets. The worst is yet to come. In other words I'm assuming proprty prices shoot up as soon as she gets the flat.

Beginning:
Cheng brutally murders a security officer.

Q1: Does the ending imply that she will continue murdering so that the price of the flat reduces?

Q2: I read somewhere that the ending is linked to the beginning but it doesn't add up. If so, what is the connection between getting the flat and murdering the security officer?

as cupo java said, the collapse of the HK housing bubble (a result of the partial collapse of the global economy) caused housing prices to drop precipitously over the next few years. if she'd been willing to wait, she could probably have gotten a similar apartment for less money without killing anyone.

the end of the story connects with the beginning because we finally learn that her boyfriend is likely (?) the little boy from across the street that we first met in the "1991" sequence (suggested by the paper cup and the "*ssh@le" line).

The most important thing to remember is that she worked in the financing industry, which was hit the hardest in 2008 and 09. The obvious outcome of her situation is that she will lose her job, as well as the flat. You can see it in her face, while listening to the broadcast, that she knows exactly what's going to happen. Very ironic, and I think it was a perfect ending.

That's an interesting theory about her would-be boyfriend being Jimmy from her childhood. I didn't think about that, but it's kind of a sad way to end it. It's also funny that he warned her when she was trying to borrow money that it was a bad time to invest in real-estate.
