Questions about the story Spoilers

I just watched the movie and I can easily say that I am slightly confused. I have never read the book, so I do not know how similar they are, if at all. I have some questions from those who know they story, either by the book or by understanding the movie better than myself:
Was Ernessa real? Was she ever dead?
Was Rebecca imagining things?
Did everything that occurred really happen, like Dora and Lucie's deaths and the kiss with Mr. Davies? Or was it all in Rebecca's head?
If it was all real, but Ernessa is just a normal girl, how did Lucie die? Or is Ernessa really not a normal girl?

Ha ha sorry for the bombardment of questions, I am just looking for clarification or just other people's ideas. I do not know what to think...

I'm pretty sure Ernessa was supposed to be a vampire, although I can't be a hundred percent certain. I think she was playing with Rebecca's head, and manipulating other peoples' thoughts, like vampires can in some tales. I think everything did occur, but by the end it's all very vague.
