And I think the whole point is that throwing a chair out the window is something that you DON'T do in boarding school, hence Charley's immediate expulsion.
I'm thinking that Ernesta also used her manipulative powers on Mr. Davies to prompt him to come on to Rebecca, which would automatically ruin their developing mentor/student relationship. I suspect this because Mr. Davies' actions didn't strike me as organic, but forced. If this theory is accurate, his actions were indeed forced -- by Ernesta's powers.
