That will be part of the reason why the movie fails. I wish they wld stop trying to put her in the 'love interest' parts. They aren't big money-makers. Latifah seems like a nice woman....but do we really see her with the very HOT Common. I don't. I want to see him in movies....but not with her. I like to go to movies like this and fantasize that I'm the lead womon in the movie. Do I see myself as Queen Latifah as fantasy me....ummm no.

But just to note....Common looks soooo hot in this!!! I mean WOW!!

Very shallow post....it just goes to show that some men go for the loyal, real woman rather than the superficial gold digger. So change your fantasy!

Thank you, MotherMayI! Paula Patton's character does not seem to have a lot of substance. Believe it or not, there are good-looking guys who like a girl to have more than just a pretty face.

reply

thats not the point...and the plot of the movie isnt just that he picks latifah over patton...but rather that he picks latifah over the endless sea of women that have an amazing personality AND have the amazing looks that professional athletes can get

reply

I think the consensus is that there are men (IMAGINE THAT) who, after years of tail, prefer substance. That being said, Latifah is extremely beautiful, just b/c she isnt a toothpick doesnt mean the woman is not gorgeous, gorgeous face, skin, eyes and curves.

You are clearly defined by your actions, so do me a favor and shut the hell up

As a man I'm going to say that those are all desperate men.

Well lets put this into perspective....Paula Patton's character left Common's character when he got injured and then came back when he was better. Queen Latifah's character stayed with Common's character and helped him to recover......so if you call that desperate...then you are obviously not very bright. But if you like women such as those who reflect Paula Patton's character who are only there when there is money and fame then good for you!

Thank you MotherMayI...

But let me also add this...either the OP thinks that or is looking for a sneaky way to know all about the film without going.

I saw the preview in the movie theater and thoughtit was about time for SOMEBODY to do a film like this. Sure I love it that the leads are African American, Hispanic or Asian... but they could be any race to me; the idea is still the same.

Also let me say while its nice that people are defending how gorgous Queen Latifah is...that's fine. But what I got out of the preview is that the character has a SKILL...a needed profession...unlike the trophy wife..and trophy tails that follow these men around.

I think every man who wants a beautiful woman should have one. And there are beautiful, smart professional women out there...Queen Latifah being one. But this movie seems to be not just about looking on the inside to find "a great gal I never noticed before" but to really think and determine WHO is REALLY o stick with those kinda men "...richer or pooer, though sickness and in health".

Queen Latifah is a gorgeous woman, any man would be darn lucky to have her!! To say that is isn't a viable love interest is just crazy talk!

So in every romantic movie you go to see you are saying that you can easily put yourself in their place? Is that because they are normally skinny and white? You need 2 get a better imagination. I'm a plus sized African American woman and most movies dont depict women like me in a romantic leading role so I always have to imagine. So suck it up for once

And my bf is a hot football/ track team sexy man. I have never dated an unattractive man so it doesnt matter who you think hot guys should be seen with.

It's eleven o'clock, who are you looking to hook up with, Spike and Drusilla?

You mean Queen's character chooses Common PERIOD

The plot is indeed about Common learning to love Latifah for her personality over Patton for her looks. It's interesting that Latifah's character in the film is annoyed that the men she dates are shallow and superficial, yet she's equally hollow as she only dates hot men that she can say, "Hello, Denzel!" to. Also, interesting is that Latifah's character is considered less of a looker than Patton. Personally, I find them equally stunning.

That's not entirely true. The first guy was a blind date, so she didn't know what he looked like. Yes, she was attracted to Scott from the beginning (who wouldn't be?), but I don't think she seriously thought about dating him until much later in the movie.

Speaking of the first guy, at first I didn't realize that he was lying to her about "just getting out of a relationship" and that he was just trying to blow her off. That made me annoyed that he was Mr. Charming all throughout dinner. I'm not sure which is worse, being upfront from the beginning that you're not into the person or faking your way through a date. Either way feelings get hurt.

"Actually Scott picked Leslie over Morgan."

Yes, we know. That's what we've been discussing.

Only scene I didn't like was QL doing her coochy dance in the bed the morning after. (blushes) It didn't work for me. Seemed like she slipped into the others persona like she scored something? Not cool, and way over-acted.

At first I thought this too GAS, but it came to me later that she may have been just so happy that she had finally found the man of her dreams and one who wanted her for who she was as a total picture - wasn't super model/pretty girl stuff, (had a) broke down car that treated like a Merc, renovating her own house, great job and excellent personality and charm. I'm still on the fence with it as I think they played that scene out too long for me.
