Someone needs to be fired

If that pilot episode was the basis for the decision to green light more more, someone really needs to get canned.

I ignored all the bad reviews and decided to give it a go with an open mind. When I saw Andre Braugher and Robin Weigert, I thought it'll be pretty good. Man was I wrong...the show lost me shortly after the first commercial break. Hasn't it all been done already? Where has all the originality gone? Young good looking doctors, blah, blah. Turns out the only two actors that I'd watch on a show aren't part of the regular cast. LOL!

I tried it, but it's just a real stinker. Just another cookie cutter show. It's nothing to do with the acting or actors...the story and plot are just so bad I'm actually hoping CBS tosses in some reruns of anything else next week.

Why cant they concentrate on the characters that is supposed to carry the show instead of adding way to many victims to the mix?

I rather see they spent half the time outside in beautiful miami and showing the life of the trauma team, instead of beeing confined to a operating table 99 % of the time.

reply

How can you say this isn't original?

Come on, I mean people get hurt and they are taken to a trauma center. The Doctors treat them while dealing with their own demons. Some patients live and some patients die.

Really, it must have taken a huge team of writers sitting around brainstorming for years to come up with something so unique.

The fact that it has a city in the title tells me that if this is a ratings success there will soon be a "Memphis Medical" or a "Topeka Medical" or maybe a "Kalamazoo Medical". They will have Andre Braugher guest star in each pilot and have a different kind of meltdown each time.

It isn't original. The "Golden Hour" concept has been done at least two times in the past, once in 2005 and at least once in the 1990's (can't remember the specifics of that one). Neither time lasted more than a handful of episodes. Throw in E.R., Trauma Center, Emergency, and a host of other shows about emergency rooms and you have absolutely nothing original about it except for how bad it is.

If a man speaks in the forest and no woman is there to hear it is he still wrong?

reply

cee, have you even read rick's post (I mean the entire post!)??
Or perhaps sarcasm is just not a language you speak...
But you're absolutely right about the "Golden Hour" concept and all the rest.
It might even be worse than Three Rivers (...still undecided)...

reply

Sarcasm is practically unheard in Japan so yeah maybe he's from somewhere like that

reply

Now if they made your "Kalamazoo Medical", I'd definitely watch that... we'd have all sorts of injuries from the cereal factories!

reply

Agree. Sappy writing, CSI color distortion, LA scenery, predictable emergencies, a GI specialist doing hand re-attachment, I don't know how the actors can keep a straight face.

reply

Show is terrible. The lame over-dramatic opening scene mirrors that of Three Rivers from several months ago. And you see how far that show went. It wasn't a good minute when I turned off.

None of these so-called medical shows can ever measure to ER.

reply

You're not that young, ER only ended last year.

I advise that you buy all the seasons and go through them. Nothing stands up to the magic that was ER. They were there to save lifes, nothing else mattered. The characters were REAL too, none of this model good looking people who magically become doctors.

reply

Gee, first thing you do with a patient shot in the neck is have him turn his head from side to side and watch him collapse on the floor. Where do they find the writers (and medical advisors) for television shows these days? When I see medical mistakes in the first five minutes of new shows it puts me off and I don't watch anymore. Goodbye Miami Medical, you won't last very long.

S.S. former NY State emergency medical technician-critical care, PBT-ASCP, and a bunch of other stuff too lengthy to list.

reply

Yeah, they're supposed to be an Alpha-Team, but as soon as the Alpha-Doc (what kind of AD was that anyway??)leaves them they're completely disorganised and unable to make decisions...
...and sadly there was not one single moment of originality!

The idea of writing Tv dramas is to have characters that people like or hate enough to get involved in the story line. This show is about attractive looking boring people! Which equals a totally BORING show!

Well, I don't think this kind of TV-series ought to be realistic. They never are. "CSI" isn't realistic either.

I suppose if we could watch real doctors doing their work it would be terribly boring for the audience and everyone would complain that it is not realistic since they are too calm and passionless. ;-)

I don't mind that the Cuban doctor mentions to be Cuban. But I am surprised that so many critics focussed on the british accent of Jeremy Northam and no one wrote about the accent of Lana Parrilla when she speaks Spanish - which is much more absurd. In the beginning of the first episode she said one word in Spanish (“caballero”) and in the same instant it was obvious to everyone who speaks Spanish (even to me who is not a native Spanish speaker) that Spanish is not her mother tongue. Even if this character has left Cuba as a child she shouldn't have such a terrible english accent when she speaks Spanish. I mean she spent her early childhood in Cuba and has grown up in Miami.

However, it doesn't matter since in this kind of TV-series everything is about looks, facts are not so important. Nevertheless I don't think it's that bad. It's worth watching because of the characters, some actors (especially Jeremy Northam) and some dialogues, the more quirky the better I like them. :-)

Of the three episodes I have seen it was episode 2 that I liked best.

reply

wow cant believe this is the first show that isnt original out of all the TV shows out there, unreal....

Anyone wishing to do so can turn to Discovery Health. It's full of shows depicting real doctors doing their real jobs. And there are at least 2 or 3 shows about Emergency rooms and trauma.

if you're talking about Elisabeth Harnois' character as the too young to be a doctor you do realize the actress is 31 right? (and was 30 when the show filmed)

.

Really keep trying to like this Show

Could have had great potential

Interesting concept and fairly well crafted

But except for the British Guy

Everyone is way too young and pretty

Hospital filled with beautiful 25 Year Old Doctors ?

Hard pill to swallow
.

However, in light of all the ads from McDonalds

Who must be a primary sponsor

This show should please the cultivated palate of their customers
.

Now, if only the Local News, just coming on

Was 1/2 as good

No need to fire anyone - they just canceled the series!

reply

I was hoping for the best because I love Jeremy Northam, but this show is bad.
Same here. I only just saw this show for the first time and can't believe how gawd awful horrible it is. I don't know what medical consultants they hired to help with the dialogue, but they should get their money back. It's not even close to sounding believeable.

I've read a few things about people complaining about Jeremy Northam's accent. What's the problem with his accent? Is his character supposed to be from the US? If he is, I can see people noticing that the actor doesn't mask his accent very well, but if the character is from England, what's the problem?

It isn't difficult to see why the show has already been cancelled.
