slo-mo replay

those slo-mo replay scenes were caca

Agreed. Once in a while is fine, but for EVERY punch of EVERY fight scene? No, it's just to pad your run time and make your fight scenes easier to film.

Weak. 5/10.

Seriously. It basically ruined the movie for me.

If they ever release a version with all the instant replay stuff cut out, I would buy the living hell out of that DVD.

reply

Wow. I must have been the only one to enjoy those replays. Also, Did anyone else think that the action scenes were AWESOME!?

reply

Yeah those damn replay actually killed the movie for me too, i could live with the thin plot, as most martial arts movie got it... and the fight would have been enjoyable with better punch and kick audio, and without those damn slomo all the time.... a shame really

And what about good music to fit the fights... anyway...

reply

I'm pretty sure that a full 30% of the length of the film was the damned slo-mo.

my first language is french... so I'll probably make some spelling mistakes.

I just finished watching the film.. for the first time... I love martial arts movies...
this one dissapointed me a little.

I love the facts that they didn't use wire.. because I'm personnaly not a fan of wire. I like martial arts for the skill of the person... and wire is a technicality that's in the way in my opinion. Well, in a movie as good as Hero I don't really care... but still!! ;)

Like all of you I had problems with the slo mo. Generally, I really enjoy them when they are well done.. like in an Isaac Florentine movie. The slo-mo are truly badass, because they are used as an editing style as well as an "emotional" style. In this one, they just re-show you the exact scene that played a second ago... and not even bother to show you another angle... they just show you the same scene... which I really don't get the point. If you wanted to show that the punches and kicks really landed, you could have use a slo mo right before the fist/foot hit its target.

well there is one scene where some guy jump in the air and the master kicks him... that was cool to re-watch... but still... change the angle or something!! and the other times... they wait like 10 seconds...just for us to really be in the scene.... just to re-show you the 10 seconds of the same scene.. which cuts the action as well as boring you for seing twice what was not necessary of seing twice. I can understand to re-show an awesome kick or whatever... but a 10 seconds action sequences??? really???

And it's not like what they re-shown you was the most incredible move of all time.. sometimes is just a basic punch in the face.. which we see it landed.. but we also see that they're not really that hard.

I think that the lead girl was good, both acting and skilled in kicking ass, but I really liked the girl who's does all the flips in the dojo... and laugh at the assistant master for being weak!! She should have been more present... she was awesome.

and the master was good with martail arts.. but definitly have to increase his acting skill....

I find also really funny when the right wing bad guy was playing like he was some king of a big deal but then gets beating hard and fast!

I also like the philosophy angle behind it... because fighting is cool... but the philosphy, for me, is important... but I find it kind of weird that the girl, being a brown belt, realize that the katas are being use in a fight. In the end she's all like: wow...his move are actually a kata!... I don't do karate... but even I know that you can utilise a kata to defend yourself... to apply it in a combat.

well... the movie isn't the baddest thing I ever saw... It was ok.. but it have some major problem that are difficult to overlook.

I agree with everyone saying the slow motion scenes were completely unnecessary, and they added nothing to the movie. The movie would easily be at least 20 minutes shorter without them. Not even worth it for the upskirt views.

reply

I also want to add that because of all the slow motions replays, you don't really miss anything if you set your dvd playback speed at 2x for the entire movie. In fact I would even recommend watching it that way.

The slow-mo was a pain in the azz. It only made the movie worse than it already was.
