Couldn't they have caught the kids?

Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert!!!

First off i'll say I didn't think the movie was horrible. I've seen some real bad movies so i'd say this was decent. Not great but decent. I think the performances is what saved it for me but anyway back to my original question the scene where the crazy father drops the kids off the balcony I was wondering why they all didn't just group up and go the where the kids where gonna fall and all reach their hands up to catch them instead of just standing there screaming and crying. I mean i'm sure it was for storyline purposes but that's what I would have tried to do in that situation.

because, anything falling from high, at a certain speed, can surely harm/ kill what it hits...

It looked to me that there was an iron fence outside the building and at least a 3 foot gap between the building and the fence. I thought they should have fell straight down, so when she was cleaning the blood from the sidewalk, it looked like an error.

People don't think about that in those situations. Adrenaline takes over. Except, as we have seen with alot of youtube videos, people stand around in "shock a lot." It's interesting how people react in emergencies. Some people get paralyzed. Other's leap up and go racing in. I am the latter (whether that is a good thing? who knows). I was in a doctor's office once, and a lady was having a stroke or heart attack, so I rushed to the window to get the receptionist to retrieve the doctor. She was so dumb, wouldn't listen to what I was saying, "the doctors is with a patient, blah blah blah..." Me: "yes, but someone is having a stroke or heart attack..." HER: "I am not allowed to..." Me: "Not allowed to? Not allowed to?..." And finally, I yelled at her and said "look, if you don't get off you f*ing *ss and get the doctor now, not only will you be the cause of this woman's death, but I am seconds from jumping over this counter...*#%!*#"

And that snapped her out of whatever mental coma she was in, and then the doctor came flying out of the door seconds later. Of course, the doctor knows an emergency which is why she came tearing out the door seconds later. I don't know if the lady ended up living or dying. She had stopped breathing and they rolled her out on a gurney on oxygen. I was in fact, seconds from leaping over the counter. It's not my job to babysit stupid people, and at that point I wasn't going to let some woman die because I might be violating the space of an ignorant person. Or an office "do not disturb" rule which I was confident did not apply when people were in the waiting room busy "meeting their maker."

But, if anyone remembers that video on youtube where that person was plowed by a car and all those people just watched and walked on, tons of people are indifferent, and it is sad that people are like that. Of course, the other extreme is the dumb Zimmerman's of the world who no one wants watching their neighborhoods.

A lot of people may also not think someone would do that kind of thing to a child, so they are paralyzed mentally and just watch. Who knows why they do that?

But, people do these kinds of things to children, which is why Mr. Perry's representation (while troubling) is not off base. How many times do they find new born babies in dumpsters? How many of us have seen billboards begging people not to dump their newborn babies in dumpsters and instead bring them to this or that shelter?

Powerful movie for me. Powerful scene. I just came here looking for the proper name of this movie for a list. Just thought I would comment on this scene. I like that he addresses modern issues and the way he does it.

The whole time I was screaming at the tv, please someone catch the babies!

"For what it was worth it was worth all the while."

I said the same thing but it was very sad and emotional everybody in the neighborhood was just so shocked and motionless of what was going on

reply

Well realistically no since something coming from that high can kill a person.

I still pray for Lindsey Lohan.

Had I been one of the neighbors, I would have thought to grab a sheet and call everyone to stretch it under where the kids were going to fall, and pull it tight. However, I suppose there was no time for that.

I live in a glass house, ergo, I throw no stones.

reply

There was a fence but the mom was on the sidewalk scrubbing blood. The movie had its issues but this wasn't one of them.

I'm your daddy and what do I do?

reply

Yeah that was crazy if I was in that situation I would have tried to get a pile of pillows or mattress or something and catch them. That scene was just to intense I was shaken throuhgout the whole movie that was just plain sad.

reply

You didn't see them hit the ground and at five stories up, you have no way of knowing if they hit the fence or drifted away from the building and hit the ground. Either way, there would be blood to clean up. And I doubt if Perry wanted to convey that they hit the wrought iron-spiked fence. I think that was just the location they had available and it happened to have a fence.

reply

I was so angry that people just stood there gawking at the horrific situation. No one ran up to the building to even try to help. It's unlikely that a person could survive such a long fall, but I wish people had attempted to do something.

I was more pset that she didn't see that coming. I knew he was gonna throw out those babies.

I apologize for grammatical errors- a side effect of IMDbing on my iPhone.

I was surprised that nobody even bothered to at least attempt to catch Crystal's kids instead of watching them helpelessly fall to their deaths.

There is an assumption here that we would act in a certain way when confronted with a situation i doubt any of us have been confronted with. It is ridiculous to state you would run and catch the kids. How would you know that when paralyzed by the horror of two small children dangling from a window. How could any of us know what we would do as we witness a situation of such horrific proportions? As soon as the children begin to fall the moment between you realising they were falling and the moment they hit the sidewalk would occur incredibly fast and possibly be percieved as terribly slow. The body in it's state of shock would not be able to respond swiftly enough to even move closer before the realisation that the children had already fallen. The only person able to break the childrens fall would be someone with superhuman abilities. The only person who comes to mind fitting that profile is Superman!
