Alternate - For White Girls

Seriously, if that was the case, the movie would be accused of being racist, but if it's purely about a minority, then its alright. Reverse racism is still racism. anyway I'm sure this will just as successful as all the other god-dam awful 'made for blacks only' movies.

As someone mentioned before on this board, this movie is based off a play where the women were all named after colors...so why don't you take your ignorance somewhere else?

Lonely Chicago pie

reply

yes lexiever! its cause they all wear a certain color.

also mainly EVERY movie in theatres the majority of the time are basically "for white girls". most movies have an all white cast and zero minorities. i love how when ONE movie has an all black cast then all the caucasian people go ballistic because a movie isnt all about them or casting them as the lead.ughh

Yes, we only make up 12% of the population, so HOW is it that every black person on TV is a slang speaking, down with my brother, soul sister, trendy sidekick? I guarantee you not even a THIRD of our 12% of the population acts like that so why is that the only thing that makes it on TV? We are NOT overrepresented, what is Overrepresented is a STEREOTYPE. And there aren't only black people lacking proper presentation, but hispanics, and asians, and natives, so sit down and pay some attention.

"You have bewitched me, body and soul and I love, I love, I love you."

It is not a lie at all, obviously you don't know much about television because almost EVERY minority on TV is a sidekick, and if they're the main character the show is almost always ghetto trash. I'm not talking Family Matters and The Cosby Show, give me something modern where what I said before isn't true, and not just one example either, prove to me this 'over representation'
The fact is on a normal day wherever you are in America you will most likely see a minority, more than one actually, therefore on TV they should be present in every show, more than one as well. I live in NYC and white people here are the minority, so why are they all I see in movies, television, books and magazines?
White people are by far overrepresented.

"You have bewitched me, body and soul and I love, I love, I love you."

T.V. overrepresents black people---oh,please,that is a damn lie and you know it--you obviously don't watch a lot of T.V. then---when's the last time you saw a show featuring a black main character on network T.V.---the only time you will see that is on B.E.T. or T.V. One, which are black-owned,BTW. How come there haven't been any shows featuring Hispanics since the GEORGE LOPEZ SHOW (which I loved,BTW)went off? And as for Asian-Americans---please, there hasn't been a show featuring an Asian-American family since Margaret Cho's ALL-AMERICAN GIRL got canceled nearly 16 years ago. And there is no reason there shouldn't be one---it amazes me how T.V. show writers (mostly white) are able to come up with show after lame show about white people all the time, but they act as if they can't even come up with ONE show that features someone who ISN'T white---why should that even be a problem in the first place? If black people are so over-represented on T.V., then name me ONE show which features an all-black cast on prime time T.V......couldn't do it,could you? I didn't think so. Even the CW, which started out featuring some good black shows (GIRLFRIENDS,EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS,THE GAME)is pretty much a showcase for rich white kids and their antics(GOSSIP GIRL,THE VAMPIRE DIARIES,THE HILL,etc.). I've usually seen MORE diverse characters on black-themed sitcoms then I do on most of shows on prime time. Until we see better representation of us and other folks of color in general, hell, yeah, we're gonna complain about it. Nobody gives a damn what you think about it!

That series bring bad memories, it wasn't funny, they needed laugh tracks and just not my cup of tea.

reply

oh please ezfinders you KNOW its true!

its not false. i should know i work at a movie theatre, and when i look at the roster of movies we have i notice that it seems as if hollywood is allergic to minorities or something cause most of the movies have all white casts or if its minorities then always the same people. the only non white person you see getting a lot of work is cameron diaz (cause she looks white) and jessica alba(because she hates being called mexican and basically would rather be white) jamie foxx, denzel washington, will smith. besides taraji p henson, you hardly see black women in movies unless its a tyler perry film. dont even get me started on asian people you NEVER see asians on the regular unless its a martial arts movie or anything pertaining to nerds.

it would be nice to see a couple non whites take lead roles instead of every movie being nothing but white people.

Because it's TRUE---all you have do is look at the sheer number of T.V. & movies made with white people---you can count the number of all-black shows & movies (let alone movies & shows with an all-Latino/Asian/Native American cast) on one hand. And as long as we as minorities can't see ourselves portrayed or just plain ignored in the media, damn right we're gonna keep talking about it. You're the ignoramus for suggesting that we shouldn't. As a white person, though, you never have to notice or even give a damn about how you're portrayed in the media because EVERYBODY looks, acts & thinks like you, so you don't have a damn thing to complain about when it comes to media representation. WE do.

No ashbone, not ALL caucasian people go ballistic. Only some of them do. Don't group all of us together.

and the fact that 99% of the actors in this film are black had nothing to do with the title.. hahahahahahah!!! man youre an idiot..

personally, I dont care for racism at all, on black, on white, no matter the racist remark.. As a white american.. it bothers me to know the history of slavery , the civil rights battles, etc... then to see its OK for there to be so many organizations for black only.. NAACP , Black caucus' , etc etc..

is this film racist, prolly not.. but the inference in titles like this, and other films, products, organizations etc is a pathetic joke.. its just like FUBU.. For Us By Us. racism will always be around as long as all sides make things like this..

Hmmmmm....
It bothers you to know the "history of slavery, the civil rights battles, etc..." yet you complain that "it's OK for there to be so many organizations for black only....NAACP..."?
Apparently, you DON'T know the history of "the civil rights battles" or you wouldn't make such a grossly uninformed statement about the NAACP. *smh*

reply

uhh. read the post again.. or get your daddy to read it to you... you obviously dont understand english..

never said its OK for those organizations... although theyre perfectly entitled.. when we all get over splitting into differant groups... then we wont have the NAACP nor the NAAWP... which BOTH promote racism by name alone..

Many white films fail ALL the time EVERY year, but Hollywood keeps making them--and by the way, PRECIOUS was a independent film that got a Hollywood distributor---no Hollywood studio would EVER make a film like that because they don't believe that black folks' stories are worth telling unless Denzel or Will is in it.

And Hollywood is nowhere is liberal as it would have you believe---otherwise this wouldn't still be going on:

http://www.racialicious.com/2010/06/11/of-hollywood-and-%E2%80%98the-american-people%E2%80%99-how-status-quo-is-maintained/

That's not the exact article I wanted to find, but it's just as close to the subject.

Here's the article I couldn't find, telling how racist Hollywood really is behind the scenes:

The title is multi-layered in meaning. Ntozake Shange uses the term "colored girls" ironically since at the time the play was written, that term was no longer in favor. Nevertheless the racial meaning of the term was intentional. Shange wrote the play about black women and their experiences.

Black movies are financial failures.

Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire - $47,566,524
---------------------------------------------------------------

It had a $10 million budget and a limited release. $47 isn't a bad-it at least made back its budget.

Lets say there is a film called For White Girls-same script with some changes. I will see ads for it during Degrassi, Gossip Girl, 90210, Greek, Caprica, WWE Raw, TNA and even Blue Mountain State.

The failure for many of these black films is that they get limited promotion depending on who is in the film. How many ads for the Karate Kid did you see? How many for Lottery Ticket? How many for this film? I saw ads for TKK on all those shows I mentioned above. Lottery Ticket during TNA & WWE programing. For Colored GIrls- NOWHERE.

The folks that try to promote black film fail to realize not every black person watches BET, TVONE or reads the hood hip hop magzines.

White people are just SO strange to me. Lol. A lot of you are just mad, you included that blacks have the nerve to worry about their own community and doing projects that speak to THEM instead of trying to appease white audiences. Without you this movie will STILL do well. Hater.

Yes. This movie makes Precious seem sophomoric (= It is truly a work of art.

I disagree. Thandie as Tangie was believable for me. The audience had such a strong reaction to her to, like they liked her.

@getITpapi

I totally disagree---she was GREAT in that part---she fully captured this character's emotionally damaged state, which basically engineered her self-destructive actions in the first place. Apparently you haven't seen her in other movies--she's definitely not a one-track actress---she tends to want to do difficult parts that showcase hard-to-like characters, and this is the best one I've seen her in. Also, what is your definition of a "soul sista"---all us "soul sistas" don't act alike either, you know.

reply

No one ever says movies like Alexander or 10000 BC or The Patriot or Gladiator or Gangs of New York or Titanic or...well you get the idea. ALL THOSE MOVIES are white only.

There are PLENTY of movies about white people and white experiences. Hell, if you want to complain, start complaining about the historical greatness given to Birth Of A Nation, a KKK lovefest that glorifies racist action versus blacks. White people in America just can't stand to see something black people do unapologetically without them. You don't want us around, but when we celebrate our own culture, you still want to vilify us. GTFO with that crap. Go watch Seinfeld or Friends if you want your viewpoint of the world reinforced.

reply

[deleted]

But if a white person made a movie that spoke to just THEM then people would be up in arms calling it racist.

Appearances can be... deceptive.

reply

[deleted]

Seriously, if that was the case, the movie would be accused of being racist,

Hmm.. I don't recall anyone crying racism when the "Sex In The City" movies came out... or "He's Just Not That Into You" or any other lame Drew Barrymore-Kate Hudson-Jennifer Aniston-Sarah Jessica Parker movie mess came out.

reply

Just because a film has a black cast or a predominantly black cast does not make the film racist. Just like films with white casts are not racist. Movies are for EVERYBODY! Granted, a segment of the population may be able to relate more to the content in film, but that does not make it a film for just those certain people.

For this film he happened to choose black actors. Big deal. Physical abuse from a spouse happens across color lines. So does date rape, infertility, low self esteem, and marital infidelity.

The word "Colored" in the title does not refer to being black. It refers to the original story where every woman was represented by a color.

reply

Tyler Perry didn't just "happen to choose black actors". The play is about the experiences of black women and would by definition have a predominately black female cast. Have you read Shange's work?

reply

wtf is reverse racism?? Theres only one type of racism retard.

reply

Reverse racism? Racism is racism. And btw, the title is about more than just skin color.

reply

Oh GAWD another whiny crybaby. And the nerve with all of these movies that may not say in the title that they are white only, they sure don't show anything but white people the whole movie. I think from now on, I'm a start ignoring these idiots that are jealous anytime they're not needed or wanted around. Who cares what you think? This movie was not about YOU, it was about COLORED girls so go watch your Sex in the city already, damn!
