article:US grabs show TVNZ ditched [This Is Not My Life]

"The rights to This Is Not My Life have been snapped up by ABC, and producers hope the show could reach US screens in time for a coveted slot in the summer season"

They are still making new seasons of the UK show "Being Human" even though the US has started its own version. Perhaps this will inspire the clueless network execs who ditched the show to add an NZ second season since the news of the US version might inspire more viewers (and perhaps licensing of the NZ series to US cable stations who might capitalize on the publicity of the remake). I'm in the US and tend to be disappointed in US remakes of foreign shows. Perhaps people in NZ might try to get execs there to rethink things.

Thanks for the link. The last I heard, Lionsgate had the rights. Maybe they made a deal with ABC.

I hope Charles Mesure, who's on ABC's "V" now, will have a role in the remake, acknowledging his part in making TINML outstanding.

a "coveted slot in the summer season?"

most scripted series that air during the summer here in the states are shows that the networks don't think are good enough for the fall or spring seasons, after they fail with test audiences. they usually throw them on during the summer, and more often than not, advertise them as mini-series (or some other form of "event television"), but by the final episode, its clear that they were intended to be full series with continuing archs.

the most recent example is "persons unknown," which not only ended with a cliffhanger, but was completed almost two years before airing.
